I think we could have had 6 built for the War of 1812 if we had tried. I like to design what if scenarios. 6 SOL's around Boston could have caused the British some fits

Well, I have to wonder if we had the foundry capability at the time to outfit and supply 6 SOLs. Most of our foundry growth was in the north during the Late Unpleasantness as I recall (which may be incorrect as is far too common).

Hi all,

It's done. One week of dedicated work, and the slovenliness of three months has been fixed.

I talked to my boss today, and the decision as to whether or not the position will be made permanent will be taken in early to mid-February. It sounds like they've learned their lesson, and it's going to happen.

I asked her if I could expect to be number one in line to be offered the job, and she said yes (obviously). We'll talk about pay then.

Congrats Kristian!

Good evening chaps.  Joshua is back home for now, back up to Oxford on Sunday night and a meeting with the surgeon on Monday.  He's almost back to his usual self, so he's alternately eating, pooping and sleeping.  And he pee'd on the doctor

Great, Dixie! At that age he should heal lightning fast, too.

Already peed on the doctor - such wisdom for his tender age!

For when it was made and what it was, it was remarkable. I believe it won a number of awards for documentary film making. Today I look at it and think that I've seen better, but IIRC, Victory at Sea was made in 1952 or something like that.

Good soundtrack too, IIRC.

With hindsight, Victory at Sea isn't a documentary series. It's too dramatic and propagandistic.

Hi all,

Here is web camera picture (picture automatically updates) from our Metereologic service (few hundred meters from where I live and work - the camera is situated in old part of town dating to medieval times)...

Leo "Apollo11"

Very pretty. In my hometown the " old part " of town dates from the 1850's And there is not much of that left standing.

Where I live, it's about 8 inches of snow in places. In the northern part of the country they've had as much as 3 to 4 feet.

I don't think Memphis has gotten 4 feet of snow total, in the last 4 decades combined.

Here in middle Tennessee, snow was in the forcast, every school in the mid-state area closed. There is more salt, unused, on the roads than snow! Go figure.

I have to pay a baby sitter $50 because the school system pulled the trigger too early doing it last night with the forcast as it was instead of this morning when the realization that the atmosphere was too dry for snow to make it to the ground! Arrrrgh... I could have purchased another Matrix game!

Same here. The county schools closed Thursday because it MIGHT snow.

First emergency as a parent   Joshua is up at the hospital in Oxford with a hernia, he's going to be operated on either tomorrow or Saturday.  Poor wee chap's been out of sorts all day and now Clare's upset because she didn't notice before I did.

Not sure what he's been lifting to give himself a hernia though...

Fingers crossed for the little fella. There'll be lots more fun along the way!

I just said a prayer. Always nerve wracking when they are sick this young, more so to have to have surgery. Sorry to hear it.
