60,000 troops in Rangoon?

How about a landing at Chittagong? Or Cox's Bazaar?

Yeah, at least 50k troops if my intel is right and probably some more!
The decision for what to do next will be taken in a few weeks.

We've crossed the Rubicon and have entered Rome (Singapore)!
An interesting turn in many ways....

Notice; Ordered Oscars in Kuching to escorts Nells to Palembang - set same altitude and specific target.
What happens? The Oscars go off to escort another raid from MALAYA against Singapore and this raid already HAS an escort!!!!
- This is the kind of things that I love

Here's another way to $crew up; I dispatched a couple of destroyers from this TF to sweep the harbour of enemy PT boats before the transports went in. The transport has home town of Truk and despite setting an absolute stay order the destroyers decided otherwise and headed towards...Truk; leaving the transports behind to face the music

The good news we sank a major Allied surface vessel today

Nice going PzB , how are you finding AE from WitP ?

Escorting bombers has always been very hit and miss unless they fly from the same airfield i find.

Your subs are being very agressing and it looks to paying odd nicely .. grats

Any thoughts on long term plans after the DEI mop up ? as from april iirc you'll need to prep stuff as the japanese landing bonus dispears ( i think this bonus assumes all invasions are fully prepped for landing losses at least .. not post landing combat though afaik) .. i could of course be making this up but i dont have the manual handy right now.

Andys defending burma eh ? i have to say it looks like a dead loss to me from an allied POV but he is the land combat meister of AE so he should know what he's doing. This will be interesting to watch at the very least.

Good luck as ever ..

AE is a great improvement Rob!
The new map is awesome and industry, production and all kinds of combat has been greatly improved.
Takes a while to get the hang of it, need to be a professor to understand it all.

Escorts were flying from the SAME base with an Air HQ present and escort target set "Palembang".
Twice in a row they're off to Singapore...

Subs are working great, am deeply worried about the future and US subs when they get radar and working torps!
Only hope is that there are so many US subs that it will require an obscene amount of micro management from Andy's part to sink my ships

Looks like Andy is inviting for a fight in Port Moresby, thinking about invading Cairns and causing as much consternation I can. It also depends on how long it will take to clean up on Luzon. If I have to dispatch 3-4 divisions worth of troops and another 600 guns to clean up it will be April-May before I'm ready for another major adventure. The question is then whether to bounce the locals out of Rangoon or prepare a better surprise.

I really would like to land at Madras, invade Ceylon and create lots of mischief up there.
Am a bit afraid of the ability of UK ship, completely different customer than the US Navy this early on.

Here we go again; fighters and bombers in Kuching with Air HQ - fighters go off to escort bombers to Singapore

Are they assigned to different HQs?? I wonder if they are escorting planes from the same HQ (command) while the one at Kuching is different. Just an idea.

That's possible; the bombers are Navy Nells while the fighters are Army Oscars that wants to escort Army bombers to Singapore instead.

It's curious that a direct order to escort to one destination is overruled by other priorities though - in the micro management cosmos of AE such decisions should be left to the CinC

Re. the escort: I think in one thread (forgot which one) it was claimed that optimum likelihood of escorts coming along is achieved by equal altitude settings of bombers and fighters.

At the same time, how could you expect the AI to fight its holy creator?
Andy planted the roots of his victory months ago already, and you didn't know until today that AE was all built around the idea he may actually have the means to kick your ass!

Upgraded to the nex hotfix patch. Will sub attacks decrease now?

My über good luck dissappeared when I started to play against Andy - but now I've started another game against Al (Wobbly) and I'm feeling certain that my good fortunes are about to return! Watch out for exploding magazines

Things are heating up; we're moving on into the DEI; Kendari, Ambon and Palembang are on the menu.
Singapore is about to fall and action is heating up near Port Moresby.

We're still building our bases at Rabaul and I don't want Andy to build up a megafortress that will cause to much of a headache - sooo we're taking the big sledgehammer out of the closet. Tomorrow we'll give PM a hammering and send a message to Mr McPhie!

Singapore falls!
We had superiority in men and quality but it was still a hard job.
Even with a shock attack we just got the necessary 3-1 odds today and now we need to rest and replenish our divisions.
- The CinC is looking forward to inspecting the city in a couple of weeks!-)

Andy promised a surprise today but it failed to materialize...hm wonder what that could be.
Took some precautions just in case.

Now we got a few alternatives;
1. Send most combat troops in Malaya to Luzon to finish this nut
2. Divide our troops and prepare to assault Java, move against Rangoon and reinforce troops on Luzon.

I may actually go for # 2 - doesn't matter if Luzon holds out a bit longer and we got important business to attend to.
Sending my reserve regiments that didn't take part in the fighting in Malaya to Truk, reinforcements for my Singapore adventure - would hate to go in an end up shorthanded.

Until now both sides have avoided any major catastrophes (except for those that were expected).
Andy knows that in order to win has has to avoid any major FUBAR's - me on the other side knows that I have to achieve something spectacular to win...

It's easy to FUBAR and it's dang difficult to achieve anything spectacular as Japan in AE
Think we have to be patient and carefully consider our next steps; but when the opportunities show themselves we have to
take them without hesitation.

Keeping the KB away from LBA is one particular FUBAR I will try to avoid - it may become necessary, but will keep those instances as few as possible. As of today I have rearmed the KB and in total we have some 500 ac on all our carriers together.

Score card

As you can see the fall of Singapore significantly affected the score and we now have a 1-3 to 1 lead in points.

I've ordered special armour around all magazines this game. Of course all my ships only have cruise speed now, but 'twas worth it.

It got eaten by the matrix (forums that is), and my own lackidazical approach to things. Put a typo in my new email address when changing it - forums require you verify an email addy change by clicking on a link email they send you. Of course they were using the new addie with the mistake in it so I never got the email. Tried to get the forum gods to fix it for me but unfortunately I don't have enough clout.

Certainly am a glutton for punishment. I do enjoy playing John though. Some of the emails back and forward are hilarious (pity about my game though  )

Is your pwd still "EMPEROR" Al?
Will try to get to our game tomorrow, the "jeg lag" going from vacation to work mode has been severe.

Had to get up at 0530 today to get early to work for a meeting with Singapore, buggers are 7 hours ahead of us and it's the same tomorrow. Also have to take the bus as the car is in the garage, gaawd...stood in the freezing cold for 20 minutes this morning. Who the heck said we need to cool down the world, freakin' ice age here.

Btw got an interesting book today; Fire in the Sky - the Air War in the South Pacific
Never had a truly good book covering the entire air war in the South Pacific before

Need to finish this brick before getting to it though; Dreadnought

I don't even try to have Army fighters escort Navy bombers.

Dreadnought .. Thats one very good book ! taught me a lot about the early 20th century politics too. I think i may add your other one to my ever deepening wish list of books. Got over 20 still to get through before i get any more mind you

Wobbly .. Andy may have the clout you need if you ask nicely

In the heat of battle it would be quite normal for Army fighters to escort naval bombers.
The Army fighters have been stationed to protect the Borneo base while the naval bombers hunt enemy shipping and support the
amphibious landing on Sumatra.

It is a good on Rob, enjoyed reading about Bismarck!
- "He would pick a fight against a tree and then chop it down!"
The events following his resignation truly explains why WWI took place.

Yep, also got a backlog of books, but the bottom 10 somehow tends to contain the same books.
Some bricks like "Wages of Destruction" are very intersting but so difficult to digest that I constantly fail to read more than 10 pages at the time...!-)

Relatively quiet after the fall of Singers and Palembang. Troops need a rest and we need to gather transports to move them.

I got enough transports, but not a lot to spare

Today was Andy's day! He sent his US carriers aroud to Java, I was half way expecting something after he introduced his "surprise". Fortunately the Palembang invasion and the small CVE covering force was left alone.

Further to the south the carriers slipped close to Makassar and hit our ships that had just completed unloading and were heading back to base. We had some Zero's on CAP and these shot down a couple of carrier fighters and some Dutch planes.
Much more opposition the enemy didn't encounter and in AE carrier ac are a lot more accurate than in the rl!

Our damage tally;
CL Nagara - out of control
CL Kashima - out of control
2 DD damaged, should be ok
4 PB sunk
2 DMS sunk
8 AK - damaged / sinking

I decided to keep our carriers as distant support and rely on LBA to support these "smaller invasions".
Unfortunately the only strike from Balikpapan "got lost" and didn't find their targets (18 crack Nells).
We had a further 12 Nells in the base and another 50 naval bombers in Kuching within range, so I was a bit dissappointed that we didn't get a chance to hit back.

So an annoying incident, but now Andy's surprise has been sprung and there will be no more easy pickings in this round.
The entire Pacific is open for business since the enemy carriers are in the DEI and that is...interesting!

The Mini KB has sailed at full speed to intercept the US carriers; Nagumo command 1 heavy carrier (Soryu), 3 light carriers and 1 seaplane tender. There is also a carrier escort group with 2 CVE's and 2 sea plane tenders. In all some 165 carrier ac and ca 80 seaplanes. This force should be a match for the enemy group - especially if we can get LBA into action.

I choose to consider this "incident" as an opportunity to get to grips with the enemy's most important ships - costly as it may be! BANZAAAI

Andy's carriers headed towards Ambon - Darwin.
Can we keep track of them and get a shot?

Burning derelicts sank today, 2 were helped by enemy CAG.
Lots of administration as troops and ac have to be distributed to the newly captured bases.

Time table:
February; Java and Sumatra as well as clean up missions in the DEI
March; Rangoon, Port Moresby and Bataan?

April - May; Phase 2 TBD
Options:
Northern Australia or Southern Australia and New Caledonia / Fiji
Ceylon / southern India
Pearl Harbour and Hawaii?

Let's keep all opportunities open.

He still fields Buffalos on his carriers? Interesting, he could have upgraded them to the F4F-3 already.

Ok we're getting ready to move on. In the DEI Ambon and Kendari are next on the immediate list.
We're also fanning out in Sumatra and preparing for our move towards Rangoon.

Troops are also being shipped to the Philippines and the buildup at Truk / Rabaul continues while our troops secure
bases in New Guinea and the Solomons. Shortland was invaded today.

Before invading PM I'd like to have at least 1.5 divisions worth of troops available.
I'm trying to find as many highly experienced regiments as possible.

We have managed to stabilize the decline in supplies, fuel, oil and resources.
- Relieved to see that it's possible to stop the decline in reserves cause the first month of war cost a lot!

Industry is also mostly producing a surplus result.

Will secure more bases in Sumatra as well as Kendari before starting the invasion of Java.
Plan is to land 3 divisions and support units and sweep over the island asap! If we can do this within the end of February we may be ready for Phase 2 by April 42 which is my goal.

- All future objectives depends on how well we fare until then.
The part from April 42 until April 43 is probably the most interesting part of the game.
These first months is really a chore....

Must check; have released a few crack regiments from Kwantung.
Got 3 80 exp and one 60 exp regiments preparing for PM as well as many smaller units.
When we have 600 AV I think we're ready to go.
