I'm not sure if this is a question for the Air Team or Andy Mac so I'll post it here.
Scenario 2 version 1.02.1097
I've been running a few turns to get the feel after playing the starter scenario's and I have noticed that dedicated fighter sweeps .... weather made by me or the AI most times launch after other escorted or non escorted raids. Is this WAD? In my understanding of standard operational procedures, Sweeps were made always before any raid and were a major priority to the success of most missions. Yet I see that is not the case. Just trying the 1st turn against the AI, it sends sweeps against Clark field and Rangoon after other raids have arrived (and I have had in the shorter scenarioes my sweeps happen after escorted or non escorted raids). I am wondering if the sweeps can be givien a higher priority in the games cue ...... Like Recon, Search, and ASW search have already. Recon, Search, and ASW search start first, Sweeps second ....All other air operations 3rd. Sweeps seem to be hit or miss propositions now as to be the only way to use them effectively is to clear the sky's many days before your other operations are launched (giving up your element of surprise).

On the first turn order doesn't matter so much because of surprise. Past that, I've not had any problems getting sweeps to occur properly. But that could be because I don't order airfield attacks until my sweeps have reduced the CAP effectively.

I've noticed the same thing. My fighters 3 tiles away in Lau sweep AFTER my level bombers 8 tiles away in Rabaul. :(

That's the thing Mynok ......in order to use sweeps effectively, we have to use them turns before ....not on the same turn as you arent guaranteed they will go before you other missions do. Oh and where is the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator you promised me?
And did you see the mission patch at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_the_Martian?

I raised this point about a month ago in a separate thread and it was discussed at length.  Bottom line:  most everyone agrees what you're experiencing is working as designed.  Apparently, you're supposed to do two things to address the problem you've encountered:  (1)  set all fighters and bombers at the same altitude so that they are more likely to fly together [I've tried this and it helps, but it's still hit and miss; and (2) fly sweeps against a base for several turns before you bomb it so that you (supposedly) suppress or eliminate the opposition [how this works I don't know - most Japanese players don't base all their fighters at the forward base you're targeting - they'll fly LRCAP from rear bases; so, when you fly sweeps against a base for several turns, you're just alerting your opponent to your intentions.

I offered that it seems logical and intuitive that sweeps ought to generally go in first (allowing for the usual muck-ups and vagaries of war that mess up the most well-planned raids).  That's the way I would try to do it if I were in charge of aircraft.  But I didn't get "any satisfaction" on the point.

Yes I belive I saw some of that in your AAR Canoe.
1. yes that's what you have to do to get your escorts to fly with the bombers
2. sweeps are a seperate operation and should be set for the max alt the fighters are effective at to bounce the enemy planes, and normal Operational SOP would have them launch before the other escorted raids in the same turn. But this doesn't happen.
