Played this scen from Russian side in 394. I had three subs, Foxtrot, Tango and Charlie II and Satellite info gave me great pictures of the CV Principe the Asturias with 4 escorts. All three subs could plot intercept courses, but I detoured one towards a hostile unescorted tanker first.

The Foxtrot arrived first in the vicinity of its calculated intercept. It found two escorts and snuggled its way between them. Knowing how poor its sensors are, I brought it to persicope depth intending to switch on the radar. Luckily this proved unneccessary, the carrier was detected 4nm South. Charlie was in range so I fired 4 ASuW missiles (all conventional). These were all Intercepted. Fox then made a quick 14 knot dash brought me to the usual torpedo firing range, 1400 yards or so. I fired 4 fish but did not see results as my sub was wiped out by a nuclear detonation.

The Tango next intercepted its target and made a standard pericope attach which caused the tanker to blow up. The Tango was then ordered to move towards the Carrier group at 8 knot.

Some hours later Charlie stumbled on an escort racing towards it at 23 knots. From 2nm it fired 2 torpedos and sank the enemy ship. Not sure if my Foxtrot had managed to sink the carrier, Charlie came to the surface and detected two more escorts using radar. It fired on and killed on but was then hit I think by helo dropped depth charges.

Now sure that I had at least killed two warships, a tanker and almost certainly the carrier I retreated Tango and victory was awarded - but at significant cost.

Many thanks for the AAR.  Great way to start off a new year.

You sure like to use nukes, eh?

I don't see how the AI could have used nukes.  The Spanish ships aren't even armed with them.

Jeez, I fired a nuclear torpedo from 700 yards? Must reduce the Wodka rations. Freek

I don't think this would happen in H3, either. I suspect that the escorts were lashing you with active sonar, but could not attack due to the ANW ASW bug.

I know the bug well, but in this case it did not happen, right after this I came up speeded to 14 knots to intercept the carrier and no-one fired at me. Freek

I took a look at this and you are right.  You did not suffer from that particular bug in this case.  However, you did suffer from this one:
Re-build cancels intermittent EmCon

Units starting with Intermittent Sonar EmCon setting will be re-set to zero after scenario is re-built with ScenEdit
I just checked in H3 and the ships have their sonar pinging intermittently.  However, they are all passive in ANW.  As usual, the safest bet is to always just ignore ANW and play the scenario in H3 for the most enjoyable and challenging playing experience.  It is good to see that some things never change.
"If it's not one bug, it will be another."

ANW Aphorism

Herman,

Yes I suspect that that bug may have played a role. 3.6. is still more aggressive.
