I have been trying to find on the UV map where places are that were referenced in the TV series Black Sheep Squadron. I think Espritos Marcos and Vella LaCava were mentioned in the series, but I cannot find them on the map.

I know TV has a tendancy to embelish history a little :) so let me know if they really don't exist or just not on the map.

Thanks

Might they be Espiritu Santo and Vella Lavella?

That's kinda my thinking too. The series may have changed them a little, as I am pretty sure they were refered to as Espritos Marcos and Vella LeCava.

I hate it when history is not portrayed properly.

They took a lot of things out of context on that show.

VMF-214 as the "Black Sheep" had various bases from the Russell Islands to Bouganville.

Here's a link to a brief squadron History:

A side note: VMF-214 was the A/G fueling on the flight deck of USS Franklin when she was hit by the kamikaze/bomb in Mar45

Last Fall I had breakfast with Bruce Gamble and Alan McCartney. Bruce is their biographer...and Alan had 5 kills with the VMF-214. He said the TV show took some liberties with their lives as Marines...but the one that galled him the most?

"There were no women on those islands!" :)

Yeh on the History Channel, they did Baa Baa Black Sheep, the series opener for a movie in time. The pilot for 214 (I don't remember his name) critiqueing the movie was really peeved that the series had them all made out to be missfits and screwups.
