I know the word on the street is that the next CC game will be a remake of CC2 (which would be great, BTW) - but I think another place that would be good to explore would be Hurtgen forest.

I think it would make a nice segue between Market Garden (CC2 or remake) and The Battle of the Bulge (WaR).

Hurtgen forest eh? Sounds interesting. You'd certainly want to turn off the treetop graphics!

Imagine the manouvering that would go on amongst the trees...each side trying to outflank the other.

I've always thought the scale and timeframe of the Hurtgen Forest battle would make an excellent game or mod.
Deep woods, small villages and lots of artillery and close-in infantry battles.

Perhaps this could also be realised with a pocketmod?

I cant recall where they portrayed, either way they look pretty close to Hurtgen country IMO. Both sets, Boreal and Naz maps, very good maps to fight out on, purely infantry with minor mobile support....

Actually.  I fooled around with the Boreal maps yesterday.  I randomised the 'dense forrest' element into 'high grass' and 'brush'.

It afforded a good restricted measure of movement for wheeled and tracked vehicles.  The chance of being tracked is still there however movement is somewhat more eased to allow some vehicular access to fringe cover.

'high grass' is also good concealment for A/TK guns

Remember to move with your tank riders to flush out any nasties hidden therin

Has anyone seen When Trumpets Fade? I thought it was a really good movie, but I don't hear many people mention it.

If you haven't seen it, I suggest it.

Holy cow, I just Google Earthed "Huertgen Forest". The pics are terrific. One could make a super realistic and legit map from those pics. Cool idea.

You'll have to let me know what you think! It was a made for cable movie, so the budget wasn't as great as some others, but it seems that big budgets often ruin good war movies. I won't mention of course the movie that is a perfect example because I think naming that movie results in a ban from Matrix forums or something like that.
