Just finished the May 11, 1942 turn in which I detached HMS Hermes from an American carrier tf just south of Timor, where I was beating the snot out of a Japanese invasion attempt and sinking the carrier Junyo. The Hermes was out of torpedoes so I detached her with a couple of American destroyers to retire to Darwin.

As I was reviewing the May 12 turn I noticed that Hermes was nowhere to be found...I checked ships sunk list and she didn't get ambushed while I wasn't paying attention...I finally found her in Aden!!! where the two DD's ended up is anybody's guess...probably at San Francisco. Must have been a rift in the temporal wormhole or somesuch thing...

Probably a warp factor 2 got her there.

Had a similar situation myself involving the 6 USN DDs that arrive at Balboa in early Jan '42.  I put them all in one SC TF and set the transfer hex as its destination.  When it moved from that hex into the Pacific I forgot to send it on to SD and on the next turn I found it outside the transfer hex for Aden & Abadan.  Needless to say I was quite PO'ed because of this, so just for the heck of it set the home port as SF & clicked on return to: and low and behold on the next turn, the TF was docked at SF, without any damage what so ever to the DDs!  Yee, Haw

As for the Hermes, she might just have warp drive as I recall an incident I had when I first started playing the game.  It was early in the game & I had her at Columbo so she could get repaired & I off loaded 814 Sq for ASW patrols & training.  A couple of turns later I found her in port under repair at Cape Town!  To this day I don't know how she got there, 'cause there's no way she should have gone from Columbo to Cape Town in 1-2 turns!

Now I keep a better eye on things and haven't seen anything similar happen since.  In either case though, things worked out okay, as the DDs arrived in time to escort the Yorktown to PH and I was able to load 242(P) Sq onto Hermes so I could get them into action quicker.
