I know there was a thread regarding this issue... but was flooded by offtopics.... so, can somebody tell me the right way of resizing CV air wings? So they fit the carrier and consume all unused CV capacity... The wing has to be set to fit the ship and then what???

Just disband the ship, and squadron should resize right away or next turn.

I think michaelm also stated that you should set all of the air units on the CV to be resized or there is a possibility that strange things will happen.

There seems to be omission introduced by latest hotfixes. See:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2358149

This was in Scen 6.

None of the USN air groups have their resize options set in the scenario files.

I don't know when this happened.
Originally it was hardcoded, but the code was removed on the understanding that the values were to be set in the scenario.

Sorry, there seems to have been a mis-communication somewhere.

IJN CV airgroups resize to a 1-1-1 ratio of fighter/DB/TB (for example 24-24-24 of Shokaku/Zuikaku)
IJN CVL airgroups resize to about 3-2 ratio of fighter/TB (for example 18-12 on Zuiho)
IJN CVE airgroups resize to about 1-1 ratio of fighter/TB (for example 10-10 on Hosho)

One CV, Soryu I think, has 71 capacity of which only 69 is used (i.e. 23 planes each), otherwise I think all carriers are filled to capacity.

...or so I think, at least. No idea what US or British groups resize to, or if at all.

Usually yes. But I've seen different results too. For example Hiyo resized to 19 zeros, 19 vals and 13 kates, when sistership Junyo have 17-17-17. And both are two planes short...

I prefer Hiyo's groups.

Hmmm, I have a problem with setting all the air groups to resize in that you are in danger of overstacking. I usually just set one air group to resize, the one I want to get bigger and in that way have control over this rather than giving the AI full control over resizing aircraft on my Carrier.

Got 130000+ supplies at that base. Level 7 port. Naval HQ. tons of auxiliaris. But never mind, I resign can live without resizing...

Well, I hate to dappen the party here but,,, I had that CVL, forget the name with 48 capacity. Had 4 air groups on board, 1 ftr grp carrier capable an independent and three Kate groups. Set the three Kate groups to resize as I could not set the independent to resize, no option for that. Each Kate group resized to 19. Wow, that is 19 x 3 plus 9 fighters I already had on board as independents way over capacity. If my math serves me correctly that is 66 aircraft on a 48 capacity light Carrier. Not what I really wanted to do. GRRRRRR. So setting them all to resize I do not think is a good idea. LOL :-)))

Can you "expand to fit ship" a really big group, like the 32 Kates that start in the home islands, to make it even bigger? I just want to use that group for training pilots, and I'd like to make it larger. Can I do that?

I'm worried that if I put the group on a CV, it will resize to get *smaller.* Actually, I'm not sure I could put it on a CV anyway, as it's in a restricted command.

Well, I came close. Had only 1 ftr group on a cve in Tokyo and it resized to 27 so I would think theoretically you could. I think for getting large groups it is best to have only one group on a Carrier at one time.

They won't resize ever if you don't order them to on a group by group basis.

What I have found that helps, at least sometimes, when group doesnt want to be resized, is to send a CV to other port and back, and then disband and voala! New 72 aircraft unit  is there... Groups from restricted command is not possible to station on CV.
