For a TF that is currently headed off map, you should NOT change the home port or destination of the TF to an on-map location (with the possible exception of the Return To buttons).

Don, could you clarify this? Do you mean any TF that is "headed off map" (including one which has not yet exited the map, but will on some future turn), or only one that is off map headed to an off map destination.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not Don, but from my experience when a TF is off-map do not change it's destination. If it is still on the map, go ahead and change what you want to. But when it's in any of the off-map areas don't mess with it until it arrives at it's destination.

Hope this helps.

The issue is related to off map TFs. That is, TFs that are in the holding boxes and therefore do not have a valid on-map x,y coordinates. You can, I believe, safely change any TF that is on map to any destination. A TF that is off map and headed on map may have it's on-map destination changed.

The problem relates to TFs "in a pipe" that have their direction changed. Very specifically, a TF that you see as in a holding box should not be turned around. (some work, some don't, best not to do it). Turned around means that a TF off map and in a pipe moving on map being turned around to go off map or a TF in a pipe moving off map being turned around to head on-map.

Raiders only have enough ammo for a very short engagement with enemy ships.
After 3-4 encounters all my Jap raiders have refused to continue or re-engage defenseless transports when ammo levels approached 50%.

1. Raiders carried more ammo than the usual combatant - it would not be sane to sail accross 3 oceans only to run out of ammo after 30 min! - So should raiders have reloads?

2. Destroyers and cruisers spend a lot of ammo on sinking even unescorted merchants.
I think something needs to be done to address this unbalance.

One of my thoughts is that when single enemy transports are caught by raiders or superior combatants
there should be a chance that the transports were abandoned by their crews and scuttled with minimum expanditure of ammo.
- Raiders should also have the opportunity to take prizes, imagine how kewl it would be to sail enemy vessels back to Japan loaded with goodies!

Raider Action

This engagement was the first action this raider got into since sailing from its base.
After shooting up a few ships it broke of and is now heading home to "replenish". One 14cm gun is out of ammo and another one is in the red - the rest are fully stocked. 2 out of 4 torps have also been spent.

I just noticed that the Porter Class DDs which have been upgraded in April 1942 have 3 single 20mm mounts on the right side and only 2 single 20mm mounts on the left side. I'm not familiar with the ships in all their incarnations but it would seem it should be either two or three 20mm mounts on each side.

Hi,

hope Im in the right threat.

I have restarted a PBEM as Japan with the new patch (patch 2 + hotfixes) and now I have some bad luck with my amphibious forces.
All of my intercepted landings have been shot to pieces while the covering SCTFs reacted when the battle was over. None of the allied Tfs was intercepted before they got to the transporters by any of my covering SCTFs. In one case my SCTF didnt react while a mid-ocean-interception, my transporters were lost and the attacker escaped unharmed.

All SCTFs were ordered to follow the amphibious forces. I did the same things I did in the last patch and old witp.

So did I have very bad luck or has something changed for covering ships and so on...

Hi all,

I assume it's accurate since you guys know way more than me on this part but I've noticed both BB's enter with different configs despite being the same class:

Thanks

Does Japan have many of these ships

Are they in the game at the start or converted?

This raider action was some distance west of Darwin, guess the tankers were carrying oil from Java.
Japan starts with 2 AMC's at sea but have others in their inventory (3 or 4 more of varying sizes).
- You can convert the raiders back to troop ships but I haven't found any troops ships that can be converted the other way.

My main problem has been their short patrol span; no reloads for torpedoes or guns and the ships have to RTB and sailing to and from the ship lanes is the most dangerous part.

Here is a situation picture taken before the engagement below: together with subs raiders can be quite effective

One engagmenet = low on ammo (ca 50-60% remaining) -> RTB

Speedy, while they are the same class their upgrades were done at different times and there were other factors that caused them to not be configured the same. Part of the reason was funding.

The problem with insufficient ammo continues; think this must be addressed in a future patch!

A German Type VII sub carried 220 shells for its 88mm main deck gun. Below the Jap sub expends ALL main gun shells
on a single light freigher, only aborting the attack when low on ammo.

- Another thing is that you really don't need 20 105mm shells to sink a small freigher, a few shots beneath the water line and she would be gone!

I'm not sure if I should be discussing this in this thread, so let me know if I'm posting wrong....

Regarding ammo for warships and subs. I feel the designers got pretty close to accurate in this regard. Yes, Chikuma could blow all 3 of these ships out of the water with one shot. But, she's deep in enemy territory, at night. She probably doesn't have time to sail up close to identify her targets and decide to maximize her shots. She's going to have to take them out quick if she wants to be away from air assets in the morning.

Subs rarely (in the pacific) sank things with their guns. Even then, US subs couldn't sink several ships with guns alone. Subs have to fear from even a machine gun. They can't always pick their shots carefully.

I agree with you on the raider thing, though. However, I think the designers will have to write raider specific code to fix your problem. (or add a crap ton of ammo in the editor).

When a raider comes over the horizon, in game terms, the enemy ships will identify her and flee as fast as possible. Raiders work, in reality, with surprise. Surprise isn't factored in in AE, to the best of my knowledge, for raiders.

German raiders seem to have carried about 300 rounds for each of their 150 mm guns. El Cid once estimated that that would mean about 50 ammo in game terms.

I think one Ammo point in game equals one round of combat when thet weapon is fired - whether once or twenty times. Am I right?

I asked this in the Mods section, but, did not get a satisfactory response (maybe my fault by the way I ask the question).

I can't find anywhere where there were any naval presence (ie bases) in Nome or Juneau Alaska. Are there any historical references to these bases that are in game. I find where Alaska had naval bases in Kodiak, Dutch Harbor and Stika and a Coast Guard Base in Ketchikan.

This is not an issue with me only want to know for my own private purposes.

I don't know conclusively tbh but i could well imagine them to be small/medium commercial ports given the fishing industry up there. so would be on-map on bases that the US 'could' use militarily . Nome has no ground routes to it so would have to be supplied exclusively by shipping .. rather hazadous for a real out of the way base and not worth it imo. Juneau isn't much better and only real use is a sea plane base imo. Parking an AV in a commercial port is ok by me.

have your invasion tf's follow your SC ones and you should not have that problem afaik.also don't allow your sc tf's to react or they might well abandon thier charges to sail off and kill a lone AKL while leaving the amphibs vulnerable.

Hi,

I don't know wether you'll still updating the Database, but anyway...

Not for stock, Harald. Will do our best to incorporate your comments into the Da Babes scenarios, however.

Have never heard of this. I know that eight PTCs were ordered from the US and given OJR names. Six delivered to Java and lost, the last two to West Indies.

But PTC is a problem. They were not successful as a type as the high speed made it impossible to maintain accoustic contact with a target submarine. And, if they slowed down, there was little justification for the expense and maintenance of the high speed engines. Those in the US Navy were converted to PT or MGBs, or else lend leased to the Royal Navy - which did the same.

That is some amazing work Harald

Don, I just got a letter from the War Museum in London, and they sent me to a different museum to get information on the dry docks and floating dry docks used in the Pacific and Indian oceans by the RN. I have my fingers crossed.
