RR Derwent?

It's an early turbojet engine, I'd say British (or Allied) in origin because it's actually there (and iirc the Germans were working with axial flow engines). Single stage centrifugal compressor and single stage turbine mean it's early, iirc it was early 50s when twin stage centrifugals started showing.

EDIT: Not a Derwent, looks to be the wrong shape. I'd probably say that Reg is right, not least because it's probably an American engine


Reg is correct. It is not an American engine. Per the Lone Star Air Museum in Galveston Texas this a Whipple W-1. They say the serial number indicates it is one of the early ones.

Also, I Don't know if this example still exists. This photo was taken by me prior to Hurricane Ike hitting Galveston. The Lone Star Air Museum lost a lot of their non-flying exhibits. Most of the flying aircraft were relocated to safety.

Status: offline 		Per Wiki the Derwent is a renamed Whipple. Again, according to Wiki, the engine was renamed when they took over engine development from Rover.

I think you mean a Whittle W.1, there weren't many built anyway iirc.
