On the one hand, that nothing new. My dad once got blasted in the butt with rock salt for stealing apples when he was a kid. But damn, talk about overkill.

Dont try to look innocent.

But, somehow, I bet Major Mike is better at it than we are.

David Weber's Honorverse.

That's the best space opera I've ever read. Just finished (yesterday) reading the ARC of "Mission of Honor". Things are starting to come together / heating up at the same time

Mission of Honor?!?! I thought that one wasnt out yet!

Thats one's concurrent with Torch of Freedom, right? I just finished ToF recently and liked it very much. But I have to admit that I'm getting lost in all the background machinations. It used to me that Manpower were the evil guys, Erewhon were the untrustworthy, waffling guys, and the SL were just big and dumb. Now I dont even know with Maya getting involved, etc.

But I bet HH's 8th Fleet would hand the Sollies their butts...as long as the ammo lasts anyway.

BTW, did you notice that I havent had anyone to discuss it with?

I noticed

... and you're right - Mission of Honor isn't out yet. I am, however, a long time customer of Baen Books and their partner Webscriptions. This means that I frequently get offers to buy an ARC (Advance Reader Copy - qoute from Webscriptions; "This is an unproofed manuscript and is guaranteed to be full of typos and error. It is pretty much raw from the authors word processor. But you get the entire ARC well in advance of even the WebScription release")

It's the sequel to "At All Costs". At the same time, it meshes this storyline with the "Honor"-side of both the "Torch of Freedom" and "Storm from the Shadows" storylines.

I won't comment on what happens - I wouldn't want to spoil your experience

So I get to see all the mistakes Weber makes while typing?

And if you tell me youre active on the Honorverse board I think I might actually faint.

I went there a few times, wanting to ask some questions about nuts and bolts tech stuff.....and from what I've read of what was posted there, those guys are so far over my head in both physics and sci-fi that I decided not to embarrass myself.

Thats because when it comes to history I actually know what I'm talking about, unlike some folks who wander into the WitP forums accidentally.

Overkill? People have been shooting thieves for centuries.

My plan would be to put a sign out first: "If you want some potatoes, come ask me. I will give you some."

If they still steal potatoes, they deserve to get shot. Dead.

It's certainly highly annoying, but I dont think its worth it to take a human life over. But we can agree to disagree.

I had the idea 1st! And he still hasn't put up alligators in the moat, machine gun towers or concerta wire! And despite all the stories, you still can't get land mines at a Florida gun show. Machine guns , yes, but no land mines. Of course there's always civil war artillery!

I do agree that simple thievery isn't a mortal offense. Thus the point of my sign. If they aren't willing to come get something FOR FREE, then by God, they don't deserve the label 'human'. And may be shot on sight.
