WitP version 1.806 patched from a 1.00 original installation.

I've repeated it twice on different machines running Vista and XP.

The game is an AI vs AI game (Both Computer). I started it with Historical first turn, December 7th Surprise and stopped it by pressing F9.
After that I started the execution of the next turn and stopped again with F9.
When I took a look at a lot of things on the Japanese side I happened to notice AP Tientsin Maru.
Pressing S for a list of all ships it's listed as belonging to TF 136. If I click on TF 136 the game crashes. In the previous turn the AP is in Takao port.

I reloaded the first turn save on another PC and managed to repeat the fault.

Doesn't seem to be possible to attach a save to this forum.

This sounds similar to the prior thread by Splifmaker... the preliminary is the same: DEINSTALL completely and then reinstall... it sounds like you patched to 1.806 directly from 1.00... if you did, this might be your problem.

You need to install 1.00 (and then see if it works)...if it does, then patch with 1.804 COMPREHENSIVE... check to see if that works correctly ... assuming it does, patch with 1.806.

Thanks but I don't think that's the problem. 1.804 is the comprehensive update so i should have used that one before 1.806.

To verify this I did an installation of 1.00 and then 1.806 on a new machine and compared the result. One of the main differences I can see is that I only get the original version of the Data Base Editor and of ocurse no WhatsNew1.804 file.

The machine I started the game on is only 18 months old so I did a complete installation upto 1.806 in one go there originally. I can see that I have both versions of the Data Base Editor on that machine and I believe that version 6.0 is introduced with 1.804.

On the second machine where I can recreate the fault I'm also able to find both versions of the Editor plus the WhatsNew from both 1.804 and 1.806.

The conclusion I draw is that both installations are OK.

It's also interesting to see that one turn later the TF is gone. The AP is now a reinforcement with one day delay and the next turn it arrives in Tokyo. Doesn't seem to be any lasting faults from this.

I wouldn't say that it's a serious fault but since something is corrupt it's a bit worrying.

if it's corrupt you STILL need to reinstall...

you can not go directly from 1.00 to 1.806 - you need the 1.804 comp as an intermediate step.

Sorry, I'm not expressing myself very well.

I am sure that I have installed 1.804 after 1.00 and then 1.806. What's on the hard disk supports that in my view.

When I say corrupt I don't mean the installation itself but the save file used in that particular game. Or at least it was at the time of the crash. It's quite possible that the game managed to clean it out when it removed that TF and sent the AP to the reinforcement list. Impossible to know without knowing exactly what's wrong.

To be honest my guess is that it has something to do with the data for the position of the TF. I couldn't actually see it on the map and when you click on it the map should center on it but if the position is incorrect that could explain the CTD.

If it is just the game turn that is corrupted, then the problem should only happen with that and maybe subsequent turns... does it happen with any prior saved turns? If so, then your installation is likely corrupted... if the problem only occurs with turns after a certain date, then reload the game turn prior to the problem (if available) and redo it.

Well, it is the 9th of December only so earlier corruptions are not very likely and I haven't noticed them. As of now I am at the 31st of December and I haven't noticed a reoccurence.

I think I saw something similar in another test game a week ago but I never really took a closer look. It was also quite early but not as early as the 9th of December.

I'll keep the saves in case any interest pops up from the devs.
