Posted this on the Blitz forum as well:

Problems with bte/zip files + JTCS and/or Windows 7?

It has happened to me three times already that I have sent my turn over to other side, only to hear the file I sent contains my previous turn, or no turn at all.

At least in two occasions the timestamp of the file indicates that I have indeed sent a correct file.

Anyone else?

I am suspecting three things:

- JTCS in a 64 bit Win 7
- the compression facility of the Win 7: File Explorer - Sent To - Compressed Folder (or whatever are the correct commands, I have a Finnish interface)
- Gmail somehow messing things up when file is uploaded to their server

Of course the fourth thing to suspect is that I keep doing something stupid while sending the file, but I am very systematic with it so while I was suspecting user error in the beginning I do not have that as a top suspect anymore... confused

Any thoughts appreciated!

PS A note to my opponents: I am currently making a lot of saves as I basically stop every once and a while, close the JTCS, then open it again to observe my moves are indeed there ...

You could try downloading WinRAR from the net, it's a free compression program and try that to zip your files up.
I'm not sure if it will work with Windows 7 but it works with Vista so I imagine it does as most things do.
I think there may also be a problem with using JTCS with Windows 64 bit. I seem to have seen something somewhere about that but can't say where at the moment.

I downloaded the 7Zip utility for Win 7 and thus hope to have said good bye to this strange behaviour.

There's a good discussion on the Blitz as well:

I hope this will work.

Thanks GHQ! All ideas and comments still welcomed !!

I am having the same issue

We get about 3-6 turns in and then there is the "error opening the battle file" and no matter what we do we cannot fix our game.

I have win 7 64 bit not sure what my buddy is using

You posted at the Blitz as well? I recommend to start using Winzip or 7zip or the like for file compression, instead of the W7 compression utility. While I was never able to pinpoint the exact problem, I have had no problems after I migrated to 7zip.

Hope this helps
