Slushy rain tithe ok time to get a haircut

I'm not certain how that logic follows...

Yeah, I was mulling that one for a while too...

Well I was told by the Oracle that when the slushy rain came I could visit the temple of hair cutting run by a "barber" but when I arrived there at the appropriate time and with the appropriate weather I came to find a sign on the door that said "Sorry closed doctors appointment" I guess the oracle was wrong. Oh well maybe next week

There is no barber. There is no spoon.

Morning Mike, hope you're having a nice day.

Well, I'm at work now, but it could be worse, thanks.

Some blithering idiot started another "The Japanese were innocent victims" thread. Good grief!

Good thing Erik stepped up and put the kibosh on it quickly.

I don't think it was anywhere near the line yet , but apparently Erik is taking no chances these days.

I think whoever started that thread was confused between Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 (who saw the Japanese as a check against Russian ambitions in Asia) and Franklin Roosefelt in 1941. The world changed a lot in between.

I really don't know what the person who started the thread was looking for , asking for or trying to start. But apparently such questions are dangerous. So we really should go back to saying good morning , telling about our jobs, families, etc. And of course talking about the game. There are better places (and safer) to ask questions and discuss "dangerous" subjects. We don't need controversy, or debate here. People will get offended.

So , how about those Red Soxs? Or Kristians toe? Or Nik's taste in music?

The complex situation in the Pacific is an interesting topic. Its a shame that any such discussion inevitably draws out yahoos who want to wave the flag and/or refight the war, now 70+ years past. To me, the prewar analysis was the best part of Costello's mammoth one volume work on the Pacific war. It did a good job of dispelling the white hat/black hat view

history has taught us that it would have quickly degenerated to the point where certain long term trolls would start posting pictures of Chinese skulls again to prove how evil and wrong the Japanese were. That was a particularily tasteful thread that started off just as innocently.

Like I said...it wasn't too bad yet.

It's probably a balancing act between reducing forum discussions to so much puffery and niceties versus interesting debate about contentious issues by well-meaning individuals. So, in the absence of the latter:

How's the weather where you are?

What did you have for breakfast?

How is your job and family?

How about this game!

I totally agree. HP Wimott and others have recently published books on this area, and I think it's become of quite a bit of intrest ot scholars and people who are interested in the second world war and its causes.

We should leave such discussions to experts and historical discussion forums. They are questions that are too dangerous for Matrix forums.

oh it was marvelous.....it's a sad commentary on human nature when people start comparing "atrocities" statistically in order to try to win an argument......"Oh well so and so Cherokee died on the Trail of Tears!"....."Oh yeah? well compare that to x number of slaughtered Chinese!!!" uga booga! Thats when the skull pictures started getting posted and Erik had to step in.

I wish i was making this up.

We both participated in it. It's a dangerous discussion , and that makes us both dangerous people. We should feel awfull and go punish ourselves. Sing the "Barney song" 10 times. That should lower our IQ's by 20 points at least. Instant lobodomies!

The beauty of THE THREAD!!! is that everyone who is a regular here does not take themselves too seriously. We can actually banter about crazy and real issues without it becoming a contest to prove who is superior. We all already know I am.

Most of those topics don't belong in the WitP or AE forums. General discussion is a good place for it. That way, I can easily ignore it.

Which makes it so DANGEROUS! WE CAN'T DISCUSS SUCH THINGS!
It will inevitably lead to offending people! Or learning something! That's the same thing!
