This is terrible, attack after attack on our National delicacy. This is on a par with calling your 'Grit's' (what ever they are), a pile of steaming-hot Alligator vomit!

I can't really disagree with your comment about grits. They are corn by the way

GFU's people make something thats between grits and cornbread. Its great stuff!

Spicy food is good!

I don't have any bad consequences like some claim. Maybe it's the Martian digestive system.

Interesting. A quick google shows that it is indeed basically polenta. Yum!

Day old polenta is really good fried in butter or olive oil and served with tapanade.

Or top it with baked parmesian cheese (the real stuff , not that grated power that comes in a green can).

My only consequence is nuked taste buds. After the 1st bite , I can't taste anything for days. My only problem with hot food is that. Is it really necessary for cajun or Thai to be that hot? I've had both dialed back and they yaste wonderfull. But full strenght? That's for people who have a strange thing for pain.....like Pas.

Thats the stuff. I spelled it phonetically. But'll I'll have to ask GFU about all those weird lines.

Add: She says that the As actually have an "eh" sound. Live and learn.

My mother used to take day-old grits, fry it in butter and pour syrup over it. Despite that my father is almost 91 and still going. By the way, he is a veteran of the 1944 New Guinea campaign so I don't think buttery grits is enough to take him down.

I'm confused here and need help from a southerner. I'm not sure if grits is singular or plural.

Plural. What would you do with one grit? Use the word as you would rice. Frying it in butter is common , but I'm surprised about the syrup...what kind of syrup? I recall New Englanders treating grits like oatmeal , when in reality the consistancy is more like that of pasta, and you usually eat it like such. Salt, pepper, butter and sometimes cheese. I may have been born in Maine, but I'm extremely fond of southern cooking. Properly made grits really is one of lifes little pleasures.

Cllective noun? That sounds vagely communistic. I'm glad you were paying attention to your grammar teacher. I wasn't. (Or spelling either).

Fresh grits got that treatment. It was the day-old leftovers that got the frying and syrup treatment.

First stop after leaving home was Gainesville, Florida. Had a colleague there that traveled to Chicago where he ordered a breakfast of eggs, bacon, and grits. The reaction from the waitress was "Eggs, bacon, and WHAT???".

actually i have.....we have one Aussie/Kiwi style bar here.....and it was on the menu...so i tried. Trick is it has to be a very light spread because it is potent.

We had a Kiwi faculty member that had an affection for the stuff. I made the mistake of trying it...twice. Nope. I'm with AW1Steve on this one-it's pretty rancid.

At least youve got the cajones to try it twice.

My God... You blasphemers, degrading our sacred and spiritual toast spread!

I am shocked, and saddened by this affront to our national toast spread!
