My father was a gym teacher. It was a really small school system. He knew we were in trouble before we did.

Oh, stop it, friend. Nothing was intended other than a mildly humorous attempt at pointing out that there is a difference between "elect" and "select." No digression on politics, history, government types, the desirability of French women, penis sizes, green buttons or Mr. Green Genes was intended. Sorry to have caused you any consternation or constipation.

And now, back to the Jackson Five Story, starring the Osmond Brothers.

How much teaching can you do with only one student named Jim, anyway?

Well, since I grew up in Nebraska in the 50's and 60's where the choice was girls or sheep, it really didn't matter what their names were.

Ah, Nebraska. That large, empty space that keeps Iowa from bumping into Colorado.

Must not have been much of a student. Couldn't even spell his own first name.

Ah, Iowa. That medium-sized empty space that keeps Minnesota from bumping into Missouri.

Birthplace of Johnny Carson, James T. Kirk and that even more famous fellow pasternakski, by the way...

Did you know you can get 180 bushels of corn from an acre of farmland in Iowa?

I thought Johnny Carson was born in Nebraska.

Born in Corning, Iowa, raised in Norfolk, Nebraska. My connection is very close. I used to be neighbors with the guy who runs the sewage treatment plant in Corning, Iowa.

And how could I not have mentioned that Iowa was the birth state of Marion Michael Morrison?

Of course to get this kind of yield you must inject anhydrous ammonia directly into the soil about 2 months prior to planting the corn

One of my co-workers is from Iowa.

They had a competition several years back to come up with a new slogan for the state (they had apparently grown weary of "The Tall Corn State").

My suggestion? "A Good Place to Be From." I guess they didn't get it or appreciate it.

The winner? "A State of Minds." Fortunately for them, it was sh1tcanned (the slogan, not the whole state) before the license plates were stamped with it.

Sufferage is a noun. My sentence used it as the direct object of a verb. Perfectly correct grammar and semantics.

Listen, you alien critter, I had no intention of sticking a steel probe into your sensitive language use nerve root. Forget it, I was trying to be facetious - and, obviously, without success.

I wouldn't offend you, cause I LOVE YOU, [[fill in correct genus and species identification or MAN, as applicable]].

You can't offend me, you blind offal of a human cow. I couldn't give a gull's **** what you think of me. Maybe even less. So rest easy bro. I'm completely unoffensable by you. Even though that isn't a word, as mama says.

A few good snowstorms the previous winter and a load or two of manure don't hurt, either.

Manure doesn't hold a candle compared to anhydrous ammonia.
