I've a number of games going, and in one my Jap BB's bombarded Soerabja and took a beating from the CD (thanks Roger...).

Ok fair enough but in another game my ABDA boys in Batavia have not bothered to fire a single shot at the Jap bombarding fleet (both day and night). Thanks Przemek.

I've changed the CD leader to high land value - no good. Should it be a high Naval value or is it just hit and miss?

Thanks

Mike

Mike, did you have the option to "have escorts bombard" turned on?

My experience is that this option orders your bombardment TF to be closer to the shore than not and thus subject to more of the CD guns.

I've generally been very respectful of bases with good CD and minefields such as Bataan and Singapore (i.e. close range/long range didn't matter - your bombardment TF will get hurt). However, the Java bases are not too well armed with "large" CD guns so I have rarely had any problem bombarding from long range. I try to keep the escorts bombard option turned off unless there are few or no CD guns.

My Jap BB bombardment of Soerabja did NOT have escorts on, but the BB's still got chewed up. But in my Allied game, the Batavia CD guns will not fire. Is it a leader thing perhaps?

I'm findind that under patch 3 beta that CD are firing and are more deadly than in Previous patch versions. Are all your games under the same Patch version. I think they tweaked it a bit too much as per Item #33 in the patch.

33. Tweaked Ship bombardment affecting port base.

Mike;

Way back when we were playing PBEM you bombarded Darwin with some CAs and smoked the place. I then changed the leader to one with high aggression. You slammed the place again. I then changed the leader to have the highest land rating I could find and on your next visit your ships got beat up. Maybe 1 for 3 is the charm but maybe it's the leader.

Last day in Kauai

As the person who chewed Mike up at Soerabaja I claim no credit whatsoever. I did nothing in the way of changing any leaders and the guns there were the ones that were there from the start of the game. I could claim lots of credit for other nasty things I have done to him, but that one was purely down to whatever the 'gods' of AE decreed on the turn in question.

Roger

Have you checked what sort of CD guns you have in those places? If other has 150 mm and other 75mm, for example, makes lot of diference in range. Latter would most likely not be able to engage BBs because lacking range.
