OK, this may be more painful for some than others, but just wondering what we have here in terms of gamers ages. I may be the "senior officer" here with 55 years (and a birthday next month

) Anyone else remember playing Pax Imperia?

I am 33, and Pax Imperia was something that I heard thrown around when the MOOs came out. So it was like Pax Imperia was the moo of that age.

I played Pax Imperia.
Good game. Not great but playable and fun. Dont remember much though.

I have played them all!!!!!!!!

Starting on the Sega Mega Drive with Star control, then buying an Atari STE and playing games like Supremacy and Midwinter to name but a couple. Then onto PC!!
SE2,3,4,5. Stars, Ascendancy, MoO1,2,3. Reach for the Stars, Breach, Imperium Galactica 1,2. Haegmonia, etc etc etc etc. Emperor of the fading suns.
The list is endless. Got my first PC in 1992, A 386DX 33mhz, 2 meg RAM, and 512K Matrox Graphics card running DOS5. This was cutting edge and cost me over �1000 at the time!!!
Does anyone who used DOS remember making their own autoexec.bat and config.sys files to eek out as much memory as they could to run the games. I used to have Floppy discs dedicated to it. The best I ever got was running FALCON 3 and managing 642K .... Does anyone here know what I am talking about? I used to have more fun configuring the system than playing the games.

I just turned 25 and I tried installing Pax Imperia on my PC but they didn't get on...

Just had a bit of a flashback, I'm from the UK and my friend had a REALLY addictive starship game for his Spectrum (not sure whether the Spectrum sold anywhere else other than the UK). In the game you chose a spaceship from a list, each having different abilities, weapons etc and then battle it out. Does anyone have any idea wht that game was called??!

I am 44, 45 end of March. But you know what they say, "you're only as old as the woman you feel". Uh oh that makes me 72 then. (JOKE) Don't tell the wife!

Can someone at Matrix get this B****y game released, I am fed up hanging around these forums waiting for the next tidbit of news!!!!!!!

Turned 58 Saturday. Broke out EoFS last night. Boy have I forgotten how to play!

Was given a CD with Pax on it years ago, but the CD was cracked and it wouldn't install. :(

So far I'm the "old man". :p

I'm 33. I'd heard of Pax Imperia, but I didn't really start getting into 4x games until after I started playing BOTF (which I received for my birthday). From everything I've heard, it sounds like that was my loss....

I think it's pretty obvious we have a diverse and pretty experienced crew waiting to grab this game when it comes out. Should be exciting... I can't wait!

I played Computer Bismark on an Apple, and Battle for Normandy, (I think that was it), when it was on a cassette tape.

First game I ever bought Cosmic Balance, I think..........

I was always an Atari man. First (computer) war game I ever played was Chris Crawford's Eastern Front. When I was with ANTIC magazine I remember meeting Joel Billings (I doubt he remembers this) at his mother's(!) house to see a demo of something he was working on for SSI. I wish I could remember what it was.

First of all, I'm 53, so I go back farther in the 4X games. Now I use to play an EXCELLENT game called "Stars!", from Mare Crisium. The graphics were simple, but the game design and multi-player game play was great. Other than MOO and MOO2 and Firaxis's "Alpha Centauri" there have not been all that many other great 4X games. Space Empires 4 and 5 where good too but not in the same league as these others. "Stars!" had a community of players who played the game, but the author was working on a sequel called "Stars! Supernova" that he could never complete due to lack of money. One of the hallmarks of the best 4X games is that the authors have tried to improve them by adding content even after the initial release (or went on to a sequel). I hope we see that here, as this game looks promising.

Yeah. I payed about $60 for CAW for the C64. Payed less for the current Uncommon Valor. WiTP-AE is a bargain compared to the original CAW.

It was a real shame that Supernova got canned.It shared some similarities with DW.

Yes, I remember "Stars!" very well- great game. Lots of versatility and a great deal of options in terms of how to play (i.e. strategy, tactics, etc.). Thinking back on it, I believe the first computer space game I ever played was a game called "Starflight".

My 1st ever Space TBS game wasn't a computer game but was the Avalon Hill board game "Freedom In The Galaxy The Star Rebellions, 5764AD" put out in 1981.

Still have it.

I'm 38. Does anyone remember the C-64 days? PSI 5 Trading Company, Earth Orbit Stations, Outpost, Europe Ablaze, etc

I would play for hours everyday for I think since I was 12. Do the math

Footslogger: I remember Outpost. It was a very compelling game in the initial stages of gameplay, but the game went nowhere if I recall. The developers never really "finished" the game, so you couldn't get anywhere after a certain point. It did however satisfy the obsessive-compulsiveness that I assume is present in most of us gamers ("just one more turn"...)
