Is this game still in development? I have both of the originals & like someone else mentioned, the UI could use some work along with the usual upgrades to operating systems, etc.

As I understand it, there will be a re-release by Matrix now that they`ve taken over from (what was the old publisher again)...  This will include both the scenario packages from Danger Forward and Desert Rats.

Then after that, there will be further development.  Barring any major OS problems that can not be solved, I will estimate the re-release will be coming very soon.  Meaning, this year.  This is not a direct quote, but my personal guestimation from everything I have heard and seen.

No offence, but sounds like you're not directly involved with the development of the game & I was hoping for a response from someone who is. But, for all I know you could be right.

BAL,
that information is essentially correct. We will have some more info coming out in the near future.

Obselete has started a great AAR on another thread as well.

Obsolete - I try not to read too much or too little into forum posts but I try to err on the side of caution.

Anyhow, something I liked about these games was the scenarios included. Covered battles that you don't see covered in other games. Look forward to seeing what is done with these games.

The unique game's scale allows to play with different prospectives and build scenarios that are too small for TOAW and too big for JT campaign series.

IIRC, smallest scale for TOAW was 2.5km/hex?

Tiller's PcZ is 1k, FlashPoint Germany I think is 500m. I've played mostly squad level, then JTCS at platoon level. This is the first Company level for me.

Beta is basically finished.  Though I don't know what the target date is just yet for release.  I will try to hunt around for more details on that.

I can probably improve on those AARs in some way (suggestions?).  I'll try to get even more out during next week.

Sean D. has re-sent me the finalized draft for the manual.  Though I want to finish some more changes in a few places.  Everything always takes much longer than anticipated but he should have it back on his desk before Monday.  I think you guys at least deserve that info.

I always hated videos due to the compression and how details such as text often become impossible to read, etc.  However, I guess slowly through time quality of them should eventually improve.  I had actually been thinking earlier I could maybe do a time-lapse as often I don't mind looking at some of those, but I'm not sure many would find those as useful.  Unless of course you're curious to see how someone else is carrying about on the same sort of scenario that you're currently commanding on.

There was an old TOAW III time-lapse taken from an Israel scenario that I remember battling myself, and I somewhat liked it quite a bit:

Arab - Israel War

The TOAW III time lapse was fine...yes a wee bit fuzzy.
But was still good enough...i liked it as well.
Maybe tech has come on enough to do the game justice.
If you can make a clear vid then that would be great!!!
Got the idea after watching Chris Merchants tutorial vids for Kharkov.
The vids he posted are clear as a bell....don't know what he used.
Yes...some games don't come across well in vids.
Thought it might help a idiot such as my self better understand the game.
But yeah the AARs do that anyway.
I like the idea of a vid showing the consequence of a bad decision.
Then one showing a better approach & it's outcome....but hey that's just me :)

Ok...so Chris M says in 1 post that he used Camtasia....Ouch!!!!
I just looked at the price....!!!

I've heard a bit about Camtasia, but I think most people using it just pirate it?

Anyhow, I should probably squeeze in one more ARR at least.  I just skimmed through the small maps again, and there is one Italian scenario that looks difficult (San Pietro).  Difficult because it seems the axis are greatly outnumbered, with the battle lasting a little over 48 hours in total.  I'll try and see what I can pull off though.

Hi
I have owned this game for many years but only got to round looking at it in detail and playing it recently.

Having done so I think that it will make a very good modding platform to look at early 20th Century conflicts from the Russo Japanese War to the Spanish Civil War at the tactical level the next step down if you will from the HPS operational games and TOAOW.

I have started work on a France 1914 mod but it would be handy to know how the new revised game will differ from the “Danger Froward” in terms of the number of “nation slots” in the CC2Terrain – Zoom files and if now units types are going to be introduced such as cavalry and armoured trains.

For Cavalry I think all that would be needed would be to give them the option of assaulting in travel posture (they cold be given a weak attack & defence strength in the editor) while trains would of course need to have their movement restricted to rail lines which would have to be introduced as a terrain type.

The command control rules for this game mean that if HQ’s are made static (and in the case of attacker placed well back) the “clogged and stopped) aspect of many Great War battles could be simulated very well as attacking troops moving forward loose contact with their command and control chain and function less and less effectively.

Many thanks
Ian.

I like the look of this game, and I hope it's release is on the "soon" side of things.

Thanks for the AAR's Obsolete.

If there is something I did that seems weird in my AARs, let me know. I am always looking to improve my (optimal) play, and happy to stumble upon anything that may be new or useful down the road.

Pretty much so.  Last week we had the 7'th draft of the manual floating around.

In the meantime, my newest AAR tool I picked up has been PhotoScape.  I just started using the basics but so far I like it a lot. I'll try to master it a bit more in a possible NEXT AAR.

Sheesh, it seemed like this game was going to be released soon. It's dead silent in here.

The manual is having a final look over right now (I HOPE it's the final!). There's been quite a few revisions. Though to be honest the original one was rather quite good as well, particularly when you stack it up to the other manuals out there.

I do hope that this game is not going in the same direction as Heroes of Stalingrad and Combined Arms, i.e. nowhere

LOL, no, they are not even in the same group. Combat Command actually did have a release a decade ago, remember? It actually HAS GONE TO PUBLISH before.

As for what has happened with BATTLEFIELDS (Combined Arms?), I really don't know. I think there are A.A.R.s from 10 years ago or so, but for some reason there hasn't been much a peep on that title since 2004 or so.

I hope that will make a difference but, aside from your sterling efforts, there does not appear to be any other news forthcoming.

I posed a question in another thread about the number of scenarios that will come with the game but I have thought of a few more.

Given the scale of (I think) 500m per hex, is there ranged direct fire i.e. a Panther Co. should be able to fire up to four or five hexes. Also what differentiates tank quality, say a Stuart from a Tiger?

Is there a detailed game description anywhere which describes the detail of the game mechanics. I've gleaned some from your excellent AARs but would like to know a bit more.
