1941年12月21日 The dauntless sparrow Returns with many large friends And drops his guano ------------------------------------------------------------ As I suspected, Excellency, the enemy carriers were indeed in the vicinity of Otorishima (Wake Island). Today they bombed my troops and airfield there. My surface ships all escaped unscathed, with my surface group now at Enewetok and a couple sets of merchants fleeing south and southwest. The enemy's timing was eerie: the moment I withdrew 機動部隊(KB) to Truk, the enemy CVs appeared at Wake. If I didn't know better, I'd say the enemy has broken my codes, hahahahahahahahaha! Seriously, he probably just got lucky. So now the question is: do I divert "KB" from its intended mission, to cover the invasion of Rabaul and Port Moresby, and chase the enemy aircraft carriers? I suppose I need "KB" less in the South Pacific now that the position of the enemy carriers is known, but my adversary has proven willing to commit his surface ships to disrupt invasions, and I would prefer to face them with all my might, not just my surface ships alone. Also, Wake is at least 3 days' sail from Truk, and I'd like to take on new planes and pilots (and finish minor repairs) at Truk. I am inclined to wait a day to give "KB" time to get itself in order, but I am not sure. Incidentally, my groups on "KB" have successfully "resized to fit carrier," and I am in a position to add aircraft and pilots to them. If I do this, will the aircraft repair (and pilots arrive) while I am at sea?
