They have lakes and rivers in Nebraska that one can use pleasure craft on. How else do you think they can irrigate the corn?

Rain?

OK , Mars. But the "cannon " is dead. Enterprise damaged it, and the new "Star Trek" killed it!

Maybe, but since no one watched Enterprise, it doesnt count.

Some of us did.

Well, I just received the 'official" phone call. I will be in Omaha Nebraska on 1 May , 2010.

Well. Do you want congrats or condolences?

Condolences. It's a awfully short time for moving. I guess I can forget about sleep or the Thread for the next two months.....

What will you do while you're there?

Buy a boat, get a job, join the Curtis Lemay flying club, learn the local history , continue my masters program on line, volunteer at some military museum (probably the SAC museum). Join a gun club , and most dangerous of all, try to teach my wife to shoot (again). I'll keep busy. And lots of road trips to a part of the country I've never lived in before.

Boats? In Nebraska?

Yep. Small boats for lake and river use, but boats. About a 16-18 footer will work fine for me.

Hey, look at the bright side. If you ancestor hadnt been so gullible, you'd be Canadian. Granted, you'd have health care, but thats too steep a price to pay.

US$3.3bn for this?!?!?!

USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000)

It takes a lot of money to make a ship that ugly! It's a good thing that the USN cancelled the program. That pig's too ugly to live!

Steve, but aren't there 3 of those ordered and paid already (and not canceled entirely - just not the 32 planned at the beginning)?

They will be US$3.3bn a piece!

True. But 1701 was built in San Fran.

No , it was built in a corn field in Iowa.

According to what?

Correct. Funny story , my wife's old boss, Admiral Barry McCullougha (he was battle group commander of the Enterprise battlegroup, as salty a seadog as Halsey) had to sell the 32 ships to congress. Then had to go back and unsell them!

Not a happy man. And he had a most creative way with swearing when angry! The man should have been a drill sargent!

With their national health care, aren't there still some Canadians waiting for MRIs and surgeries from the War of 1812?
