If he takes Geraldton why would he amphib invade Perth? MUch easier to just land troops at Geraldton and march down.

A question - IF he wants western Australia then he will take it. Sending troops there sounds to me like reacting too late and risking order, counter-order, disorder.

Perhaps you should just accept the loss of Perth and consolidate in south-eastern Australia? Right now I get a feeling you could be reacting INTO his plan, which is never a good idea.

I am splitting 27th Div 1 Bde will join the defenders at Geraldton

A second will go to Perth and a third will sit in strat mode at the rear rail junction just in case.

I will hold 1st Motor Bde at the same rail crossroad just in case as well.

In general I am totally baffled by what PZB is up to.

This still feels liek a diversion not enough force committed.

I am reconning NE Australia not a large force build up.

Reconning from Alice Springs a force is en route but unlikely to suceed and even if it does I am backstopping at Port Augusta so even if he takes Alice Springs he wont get anywhere

This all feels and looks like a diversion so where could he strike and hurt me ???

What are his options

1. A shallow landing in and around Perth to curt off newly rushed forward replacements - maybe
2. Land along the souith coast say near Adeilade - unlikely its a long way to go without perth to fall back on and why para land on the Alice Spring line if thats your plan all he has done is draw attention to that area - so that sector is low probability pZB is to smart
3. South of Brisbane say Newcastle i.e. the coup de main ballsy but would be in range of massed AF's he aint that daft he has to know I am keeping the cream of my strike aircraft inland watching for that opportunity so thats low probablility
4. Tasmania - has possibilities but its a loooong way to go for ltd reward. Fuel will be nasty that far away it is lightly defended but its close to a lot of AF's and would give me massive off map reinforcements - I just dont see it either

I think Australia is a diversion pure and simple

None of the options make sense.

I think its NZ or Fiji is the real target isolated limited risk nasty to retake and does not require massive garrison after conquered.

I am taking steps not to pull in reinforcements for Australia from eityher of these fortresses but I am not confident enough to stop sending other forces to Australia

maybe a landing at Sale it has a good road as well as the rail link a decent AF and Port potential suck my forces to Adeilade region then land behind me.

OK change of plan I am convinced in my gut its NZ he is going for.

I wont pull any troops out of Australia but I am going to refocu and pull some troops out of Fiji.

The North Island currently has a composite US Div, 2 or 3 Armourwed Bde equivalents and about 4 Bdes of NZ Infantry

I can reinforce that from Fiji with another Div and from South Island with 2 - 3 Bdes of Infantry

So I will end up with 2 NZ Militia Divs, 2 US Divs an Armoured bde and 4 - 6 Cav Regts (Mech)

I wont pull forces out of Australia but reinforcements in the pipeline will divert there.

(Its also close enough that if I am wrong it can act as a ready reserve for South Australia

I have about 40,000 men at sea in the pipeline including 2 US Regts a US TD Bn and several base forces these will also divert to NZ they are deep in the SOPAC at present.

The pansy assed attack at Geraldton has my alarm bells ringing loudly.

It has to be a diversion its just to weak

I still have the edge at Geraldton but my disengagement of 2 Regts didnt work more to follow after I figure it out

I'm reading both sides so all I can say is that this is very interesting. I like that both of you are telling us how you view the situation and how that perception changes.

KB is now about 400 miles south of Esperance heading east.

No sign of transports but he must have a fleet of Oilers close by.

Its decision time to I honour the threat...

There is really only two things this can be

A really really fuel expensive raid or an attack on the Adeilade Coast or maybe Tasmania

I took a long hard look at the map nothing else makes sense.

An attack on Fiji, NZ or even NCal would come down the direct route.

Attacking Tasmania or maybe the Adeilade coast is the only thing I can think of.

Port Augusta is a choke point for the whole west of Australia all the rail lines go through there.

But thats the bit that makes no sense why attack the rail line to Alice Springs as I would react and prepare to take it back..

A raid maybe but thats a shed load of fuel to burn on a raid

I guess I need to honour the threat forces are moving to Broken Hill, Port Augusta, Melbourne and Adeilade

I will need to shorten my front and leave only a covering force at Rockhampton and pull back to the Brisbane line to free up troops.

This one has me confused but I dont see any option.

My fleet is assembling to react but my carriers went into refit I will need two days to get most of them back out of refit

My home town in the Vale of the Leven aka Alexandria a small town at the bottom end of Loch Lomond.

The more I think it through the more confused I am.

logically if he was going to hit NZ Fiji or New Cal he would have came through the middle between New Cal and Aus

The only target I can see coming down the way he has is an out and out raid (wastefull and risky) - well PZB is capable of it or an attack on PA, Adeilade/Melbourne or one of the small ports on that coast the only other thing I can think of is an attack on Tasmania but that seems like a long shot.

My reserves were sitting in strat mode so I am redeploying to cover the Sydney to Port Augusta coast just to be safe I will need to find some small units to act as anti para in case he takes Alice Springs.

When I get the next turn I will do another full review

OK it looks like he is serious my Air Seach is pinpointing mutliple TF's heading East directly at Adeilade or maybe the base to the South.

So it looks like a real invasion.

At present I have about 600 AV concentrated at Port Augusta primarily 8th Aus Div with 1st Motor Bde and a couple of tank Bns in support.

2 Regts of Amercal are en route to Adeilade as is 3rd Aus Div

2 Indpt US Regts and a marine Regt are en route to Portland as are a number of support units.

That will give me just under 2 Divs at each of Port Augusta and Adeilade and 1 at Portland (better terrain for defence)

A 3rd Aus Div is being pulled off the Brisbane Line and will move to act as ready reserve.

At Melbourne I have 7 BB's, 17 Cruisers and 41 DD's

At Sydney most of my carriers went into auto refit

Formidable and Enterprise are ok and I think Hornet and Yorktown will be ok in a day or so

Saratoga is ouit of the fight 20 days to reactivate I have dismounted her strike group

Lady Lex may make the fight not sure 9 days to be re activated.

P400's do it again

In all honesty I am not sure HL sweeps are broken - I whined a fair bit about it but now that I am further on actually I realise it was just that my pilots were crap.

When I got my act together constant long range high level sweeps are what I hope for.

PZB in our game has been sweeping Alice Springs against 50 - 60 xp and A2A and defence P400's and losing with top of the line Zero pilots.

Training Armour and Firepower seem to be winning out and evening the odds.

The issue I potentially have is getting pilots to 60 Exp, 60 A2A and 60 Defensive where you would actually be willing to put them in a fight is a PITA and takes 4 months from pilots being drawn from the pool which means defact we are doing all operational training on map but it does work.

Allies in first 6 months are always short of good pilots and I think its this factor thats giving the whiners a field day yes there is a sweep bonus but I suspect its just not understanding the game we are playing now thats causing some of the grief. (me included)

Andy, those militia replacements are historical units which would arrive later, or they are "fictional" - and as such you had give them fictional names?

A mix they are all historic units but I picked ones that were quasi plausable for the likely time period

9th Aus Div is accelerated
44th British Div (would be rounding the cape en route to ME at present so its plausible it was diverted)
27th Rhodesian Bde was in SA prepping for Madagasker
7th South African Motorised Bde is alsoe prepping for Madagasker
2nd British Para Bde was forming in the UK at around this time I could have called it composite para unit or somesuch and renamed it later but it was just easier to call it a name folks would recognise

They are an off map CW response to Japanese aggression into Australia

If this is a raid its downright brilliant if its an invasion its madness is where todays view is.

I have 400 combat aircraft between Adeilade and Port Augusta/Broken Hill

I have another 500 in South Australia waiiting to get in the fight.

I have 5 Carriers with another 400 and a fleet of 7 BB's plus heavy screen waiting to pounce.

He will have 6 KB Carriers and maybe mini KB but I must have a 2:1 edge in pilots and planes and my secure bases are closer than his.

On land I have force of about 5 or 6 Div equivalents closing in on the likely landing sites - ok I am having to shorten my lines in the east and pull back from Rockhampton and will probably need to concede Alice Springs but if this is an invasion it looks barking mad

If i get his AO's and Tankers his whole fleet sinks from lack of fuel.

Maybe I am missing something but this is a long way from anywhere while I still hold Perth.

They are an off map CW response to Japanese aggression into Australia

Does that mean they appear in Captown or some other off map box, or are they gonna pop up in Australia?

You still hold Perth, but for how long? You are badly outnumbered at Geraldton, and he has landed at Esperance. You are also badly outnumbered at Alice Springs, and Rockhampton is no longer save for your ships. And what if he goes for Port Augusta or Whyalla, instead of Adelaide? Those bases are north of Brisbane, so an attack there won't trigger any extra units, and would still cut the rail link to Perth.
Even if he does trigger the extra units, how are you going to get them to Australia in time?
Are 6th and 7th Aus Divs already enroute from India?
Even with your LBA, do you think your carriers are a match for KB and mini-KB?

This looks more like brilliant planning by your opponent than "madness".

maybe

but as things stand today I hold at Geraldtopn behind level 3 forts.

Esperance is a waste of time because it has no road to Kalgoorlie so I can get both regts of 27th Div there before him

At present 600 AV is at Port Augusta plus a lot of CD guns

The rail lines of Australia are in full flow moving my reserves to meet the threat.

In about 4 days I will have 6 Divs or Div equivalents on the line at Adeilade/PA so given the speed of unload I have a shot at stopping him

Maybe I am wrong but if this is a real invasion it feels a big risk

Just to give a feel for my strength en route or in theatre

2nd Aus Army

I Aus Corps (Concentrating at Port Augusta)

5th and 8th Aus Div (both 300AV+)
5 x Aus Cav or Motor Bdes
3 x Tank Regts
4 Arty regts

Composite US Corps (Adeilade to Melbourne)
Amercal Div
40th US Inf Div
2nd Marine Regt
1 Indpt Regt
2 Tank Bns
2 Arty Regts

You add it all up and actually thats a fairly big force.

Adeilade is lvl 4 forts, PA is Lvl 3.

My situation is not ideal but this feels like a month to late.

By keeping most of my reserves in strat mode in the centre on the rail line I am able to deploy quickly - quickly enough maybe.

Just because I am convinced he is going for Melbourne to Port Augusta doesnt make it so this could all still be an attack on Tasmania (which would be nasty as thats where my fuel reserves are...)
