I'm currently playing Big Week right now. Having bought the game since it came out, I've dabbled here and there, but now I'm taking it a little more seriously. The first couple days of Big Week have been mediocre at best, due to me still being on the learning curve. On the third day I had already accumulated much of the recon I need of critical targets for scoring; so I decided to pass the torch to the AI planning. I made a few adjustments to the raids and watched them go. One group in particular from the 15th AF was to bomb Obertraubling AFAC. 144 bombers, mostly B-24s, and 84 escorts at staggered delays and altitudes. They were actually the first of about 6 raids in the Italy theater to go first and attract attention. About an hour before hitting their target they were jumped by groups of 109G6s. It was becoming sad to watch after awhile when bombers seemed to be going down every minute. The 109s were having it tough too, but only for those falling behind. Eventually one of the bomber groups broke from the raid and headed home, although some of them became lunch for the 109s. Finally, the raid reached target but were unable to find the target due to cloud coverage. The raid was not able to find its secondary target either. The situation was becoming desperate. The leader finally found a target of opportunity, the Trento railyard. Bombing results at the end of the day showed that there was no damage done to this target of opportunity. Taking more losses, the raid finally returned home. Out of the 84 fighters and 144 bombers, 1 fighter was lost and 30 bombers went down. 26 of the 109 interceptors were downed too. By far, this has been the most frustrating raid, yet the most enjoyable to watch.
