I was playing around and came up with this! Temporary at the moment but I thought it might be good if we can get some good Star Trek ships etc.

http://tomzzone.110mb.com/dw/index.htm

My son wasn't too happy as I stole some of his webspace!!!!

Just copy and paste the link into the bowser.

Cool. Top down is the way the engine handles the ships, so I don't see they they can't be added in?

Ooh, brilliant plan, idea and execution :)

-------

On the topic more or less, I don't want to start a new topic for my ramblings :)

I'm making my own custom human faction and ship graphics for luls. A little bit more common 'look' with a little different kind of shape. The unnamed ship on left is colony ship. They're all work in progress, just look at the shape :)

The [no name yet] is a human faction who broke away from their parent empire due to mishandling, ridiculous colonization laws and taxing and in general being mistreated and no efford was made to handle space piracy in their sector. Long story short they didn't believe the 'homeworld' could handle things anymore and declared themselves to be independent, several outer rim colonies joined their cause.

They should optimally start near the main human empire if present and the whole situation is tense, not exactly at war but suspicious and somewhat hostile.

edit: fluff (story) wise the ships are designed by corporation who officially built prototype Worldship (colonyship, with just about everything needed for new colonies for the first tens of years including in ship farms) but original empire dismissed their plans and the company almost went bankrupt, they joined with the [no name yet] as they saw new and much better market there :)

Hi guys, I really like that art work, well done! Drillerman - the Vaygr ships looks sweet. Deto - cool shapes, especially the larger vessels. What are the rounded, flat parts on each side supposed to be?

Brilliant drillerman, beautiful ships, thank you for your hard work.

Does anyone know the pixel size of all of the ship types yet?

EDIT: Also thank you to Deto.

Phallic...

Am I the only one...?

And, yeah, nice ships Deto. Heh...phallic.

Drillerman, that website should have the race/empire names more seperate in a type of list. As they are now on the same line it might seem like one set and some people might not look at the other.
Oh, nice ships also.

Just some clarification!
These are NOT my artwork they were in my SEV directory under mods.
Been there for about 2 to 3 years. All I did was manipulate the files to be compatible
with DW. I have not changed any artwork just enchanced it a bit.
I am trying remember where I got them from and who originally did them.

I originally made the colonyship design for short story I was writing and the discs on the side are used to enter/navigate/exit through wormholes. But in DW they probably have zero function, so game wise, I guess they just look like fun :D

////

Wade1000 - Yeah, they're kinda phallic.. but nothing like phallic warship raining death on puny aliens, right? :D

////

Erik Rutins - I hope I get them done before the game launches cause I want to drive my own ships too ;D

////

And thanks everyone :)

The true original: Homeworld 2.
No worries, the developers and artists have given the general public permission to use their stuff a long time ago, just asking for a thank you note now and then. ;)

Hi all,
I have updated and changed the look of the website. To navigate just click on the various headings, they will take you back or forward, you'll work it out. Got some star Trek ship up.

Here is the Link: http://tomzzone.110mb.com/dw/index.htm

I will introduce a bit of doom and gloom for a change.

Only TOS? Argh, we need some more modern designs!

Looking forward to see some SW (well Empire is made from various triangles ) and B5 and of course SG. Good job with collecting some stuff. Certainly it will be a huge bonus for modders.

I just hope people realize that modding and copying other peoples work are two different things.

Also, please make sure when you distribute these shipsets to include notes about the original authors.

I.e. in the case of a shipset using Homeworld ships, include a text that makes it clear who made the ships(The developers) and from what media they are(The game.)

That's the thing lacking on your site, and something that could be legal trouble.

It's always important to make it clear who the original owner of the materials/sources are.

It's like when people make Star Wars mods for non-Star Wars games, they always make sure to write that Star Wars is the copyright of Lucasarts etc.

Distributing these without making it clear who the original owners are of the material/source of material is begging for a legal kick in the nuts.

P.S. sorry for being such a buzz-kill!

Gargantou,
I agree...to the point that I like to include authors or source websites with all my many quotes when posting, to be honorable. Heh.

You're not being a buzz-kill.

Good Point.

I would personally rather see new art than something taken from another game anyway. But that's just me.

I have read the FAQ's on the websites which states the pictures may be used for non-comercial purposes as long as the proper people/websites are credited which I have done.
However, I think you all have valid points and I think I'll rename the website and remove the word "MODS". It is not my intention to mislead.
I hope this clarifies things. Obviously, if I have any problems I will address them.

I can't find any credits to the original authors of the 3D models here.

No offense meant, just pointing out.

Also, it still says "mod" in a few places.
Also, no offense meant, just bringing to attention.

Well, I have "modified" the pictures in the sense that they can now be used directly with DW without any other "modifications" to the picture. But to be honest I was only doing this for a bit of fun and to save time for anyone else going through the process of "modifying" the pictures.

Yeah. I tried it too again. It's going to a web templates selling site.
It was linking to the mod site the other day.

You should take a look at Blender (www.blender.org if I remember right). Its all around free, but painfully confusing I've heard :)
