tried Sicily43.sce but it doesn't seem to work in TOAWIII (unless it's been converted and I don't know it)
but all the others seem to be PBEM only. Reading Rick Atkinson's "The Day of Battle" and would love to follow
along with a good TOAW Sicily.......anybody?

Hi Erik,
Thanks, I did look at that one and it looks excellent,
but, sadly, it's PBEM only.

I'd like a nice Husky scenario for TOAWIII also.  There used to be a good one for TOAW WOTY version that I liked to play long ago but it's not on the current list of updated scenarios.

I've done Sicily 43 under TOAWIII - I don't remember having to convert it to run first. Also, I'm pretty sure I remember a post from someone who had also done Bitter Victory against the German PO even though it's marked as PBEM-only (may have been on GameSquad).

Sicily 43 could do with some work - there wasn't much of a withdrawal (i.e. none) of the elite German units back to the plains of Catania - which means that I didn't manage to recreate Patton's speedy advance, so Bitter Victory might be a better bet.

Edit: As I thought it was on GameSquad...

hi parmenio,
thanks for the information. sicily.sce wont open in TOAWIII, either as a scenario or in the editor. you just get a little box that says this scenario is incompatible with TOAWIII.
If it's been converted to work, i'd be real interested in a link.

the "bitter harvest" scenario looks way more comprehensive, but i stayed away from it because it says pbem only. but you're saying it has a rudimentary PO?

again, thanks for the response.

I think Parmenio is referring to the Sicily 43 scenario in the Classic TOAW folder. Have you tried that?

Igor,

I did play out the Marc Custer Sicily scenario, and found that if you (as Axis or Allies) follow the house rules, it is a very good PO scenario. You'll get a couple of Elmer-errific moves, but it is the PO.

I did the reply to Parmenio when he was asking about Sicily43, which I too found to be in great need of rework (I played the version in the TOAW Classic folder that Curtis mentions.) And I think the Bitter Victory scenario (Custer's ) is much better. Definitely recommend you give it a try.

Indeed I was

But as Ogar has now confirmed that Marc Custer's scenario is worth a go, might as well take a shot at that one.

I took a look at the Bitter Victory scenario, and it does have house rules and Theater Options, so letting the PO run one side might not allow the scenario to play as intended. I would think the PO might have some difficulty running the Allied side. Just wanted to let you guys know what I saw.

Thanks Ogar. Did give it a shot and it seems very very good but.............
how the h*ll do I get my troops to land? Even with those beach units
he put in there (very clever).....the only place my guys can hit the
beach is at a port. Am I missing something? (seems a rather odd
question, obviously I am lol). BTW, I'm trying to land on turn 2,
turn 1 being prohibited. I understand it might have been awhile
since you played this so no prob. if you don't remember......i'll
figure it out eventually.

um ... I'm not playing it but I think you have to move an embarked unit next to a coast hex, then next turn 'right click' on the unit and 'disembark' it. Then it can move onto the coast, or land. I think.

Igor,

I'll check my notes later, but as I recall, you need to embark the troops on the RLs. Then sail next to a beach or port, (?and maybe wait a turn -- 2 turns/day -- to disembark) - unless you're next to a port or if you're SAS. Pretty sure this in the notes, but Marc does write long notes. (And I had some practice -- lost both US and IJ navies/ground forces in the Guadalcanal scenario so I had some practice at screwing up amphib landings.)

I think I mostly stayed historical with the initial landings, but got aggressive later in the game.

sPzAbt653 is correct that unless you play by the rules, the PO is gonna lose fast and hard. That said when playing by the rules Marc lists, the PO does do a good job of land and air as the Axis, and an okay job as Allies. I do think the full value of this is human to human, but what else is new. People play vs PO for all sorts of reasons (like Elmer not minding waiting a week or more between my turns), and this is a better PO than most.

HTH

Ogar
