I've been playing around with STDG for a while (I had set it down for a bit).

A few interface suggestions:

a) IF POSSIBLE, (probably a lot of work), a 1024x768 mode, where the galaxy view was never obsured by menues would be nice.

b) Being able to say "Don't pause for these sets of messages"

Especially nice to be able to ignore:
Gained Combat Experience
Found money
Going into combat against pirates (since I usualy don't want anything to do with my antipiracy patrol)

c) Don't have incoming communication select the homeworld afterwards.

d) Be smarter about where ships go when you say "attack/capture this planet" and they go to repair, they tend to all bunch up at ONE planet (the best building planet), when they should go to all sorts. A simple heuristic of having a "queued ships" counter or something would greatly help.

Otherwise, great game. :)
