Usually now, I wait before I go out and buy a game right away. The only exceptioin is The Elder Scorlls Saga. I will buy them on day one. I still havn't got Sins of a Solar Empire and a few other games, even though they got good reviews. Maybe I am starved for a 4X space game, but then again, but I will think I will buy this game right away. I have read on the sites, I have seen the videos. I was leary at what it promised. I almost thought I was back 7 years ago, when MOO3 was being released. Most of what I read here, is the same for Moo3. I am not sure if this is a good thing or not. By that I mean, Moo3 promised alot of things and it wasn't really delivered and was a really big let down. I still like the game because of the mods the Moo3 fans made, and made it fun.

So I thing DW has big shoes to fill. I thought watching You Tube Videos, was going to be a big joke. As soon as I herd the voice, I thought, oh this is going to be a disaster now. But it worked. Matrix, or who ever, (sorry I don't know if Matrix is the publisher or the game maker or both) didn't bother to go all fancy. They just went straight to the point, made them short, and real. Yeah the voice got a little bit boring, but it was real. I watched all 3 or 4 videos, and now I am really really excited on getting this game. I can't wait for the game to come out.

Yes the graphics are good eye candy, but they are not awsome. They are not ugly either. They are just right, to make the game look nice while playing. I don't want fancy combat, but I do want combat. I think this is what I really wanted Moo3 to be. So I will buy it right away. For me, this might not be on day one, I might have to wait 2 weeks till next pay, unless the game is release now or next day or two. But I will get it right away.

How about you guys? Will you be getting it right away, or will you be waiting till you read what others have to say. To see if they have trouble downloading it, or installing it, or getting the game to work. Will you wait to see if the game is playable or even fun?

As to my warning, this better be a playable game. I don't want to buy game now, and have to patch it later to be playable. I can understand some bugs in a game, but no game breaking bugs. I will not tolerate it. I don't know who Matrix is, but I will give you guys a chance. Don't blow it. One reason why I don't buy many games as I use to, is because of the release now and patch later. Games like Civ IV, Civ III, espically Moo3, and Call to Power 2. Yes these are all great games, and I had a blast playing them, (except for Civ III) I hated paying for a game that wasn't playable. So please if this game is not ready, do not release it.

Or be like Stardock. When they make patches, they also add things to the game as well. So I hope this will not be another pay now, but play later game with patch. This is unacceptable to me. It might be what companies do now, but it dosn't make it right. Burn me once, I will not come back and you will not get any money from me. But from what I see, I don't think this will be the case. I havn't really seen anything bad mentioned about you, so I hope this will be a good relationship with you guys.

Also how is the support here? Do the developers come and talk to us? Do they take our ideas seriously? I know you make a game how you would like to play it, but do you take the communities imput as well, for patches or expansion packs? It's nice to see people who work on the games mingling in with the common fold.

Yeah, I think many of us are tired of totally trusting the quality of new 4X strategy games before they are released.
There seems to be a pattern of history among many of these games: (an example):
-hype
-release
-update for major issues
-update for major issues
-update for major issues
-update
-update
-update
-forums are dying down
-other game forums mention the game's bad state at release and maybe currently
-forums mention more bugs/game errors
-forums mention what other games people are playing and awaiting
-forums are nearly dead

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2411004 (from: 'Combat Video Released for Distant Worlds')

Code Force is the developer. Matrix Games is the publisher.
The representatives are all over this forum.
eliottg is the main developer of Distant Worlds of Code Force, I think. Erik Rutins and SeanD are Matrix Games representatives/publishers.

I will wait a brief period while continuing to read the forum and reviews before purchasing Distant Worlds. So far, it looks wonderful...yet, not my above observations.

I think you have made a good point about MOO3, however DW is nothing compared to MOO3. If I remember correctly, they didn't release nearly as much as Erik has. Erik is an employee of Matrix, and Elliot is one of the Developers from Codeforce.

Distant Worlds is a RTS true 4x, and the nearest thing I can compare it too is Beyond Protocol. That is even a stretch because BP is a MMORTS that is very deep and very customizable.

Also I disagree about you dogging the boring voice, I love the voice with an accent. Maybe because I lived overseas in Germany serving in the US Army and got used to the German accent. Plus I thought they were great videos showcasing what DW is all about, and you will pretty much get what you see there for better or worse.

The thing you have to remember is that Codeforce is not EA with millions of dollars and hundreds of people to throw at a video game. So the graphics will not be cutting edge, but in my humble opinion the state 4x games are in now is dismal. So to me the graphics are cutting edge. It has also been mentioned that Codeforce has been developing this game for a long time, and Matrix will make sure they release a final state game. Not like you mention Stardock, which I think is unfair but that is another topic.

Welcome to the community though Davor!

The only game which I will buy when it is released is World in Flames. My cash is safe for another year or so.

I will wait week or 2 to see what is general reaction about DW. I guess I'm not the only one who learned the hard way that pre-orders or buying on release day is very painful experience - latest example: Supreme Commander 2. SC1+FA were great but SC2 is garbage - apart from reasonably average single player there is nothing in it and you are forced to play it via Steam even if you buy DVD in store ! I'm so glad I didn't p-o that and I really feel for people who did p-o/bought on release day.

BTW: Will DW be also available on Impulse?

Day one purchase for me I really like supporting the small developers they are the only ones's that consider gameplay over eye candy and treat customers in a fair way.

I'll wait to see, if the product is worth the money. Maybe there is a lot of bugs and maybe there is not that many possibilities to micro-manage as I want. So I'll wait a few days to read and hear, how the reactions are

Even despite the hallow shell of an RPG that was Oblivion? Oblivion was such a dissappointment to me when compared to the greatness of Daggerfall and Morrowind.

Anyway, I am planning on buying it on release-day but it will depend a bit on the initial reactions at the forums.

There will be no reaction on the forums just after release. ;) Because everyone who bought the game will be playing it, and having too much fun to bother posting here anytime soon. hehe

One more day... oh the anticipation....

WiF is a game that I will buy on day one as well. What I like about DW is it appears to have very much in common with WiF. The dedication to the game by the developers and certainly the support from Matrix.

The game itself resembles WiF too. Except that the locations and capabilities of the opponents seem to be more known in WiF.

I'll get this game immediately.

Sometimes you just have to take a chance but after seeing everything that's been done for this game I don't see it as being too risky to get it early on.

Good Hunting.

Wait, definitely. Made the mistake of buying a similar space strat title the last time around based on the pretty screenshots and the vague info and i did regret it to an extent as it didnt live up to my expectations.

I will wait for a demo, or a chance to try the game somehow. If it is good, then I'll be glad to buy it. If it is just another would-be attempt at making a proper 4X game, then well.. lets just say, that my expectations are kinda high for the genre. Its not easy to please me when it comes to the legacy of Master of Orion.

I want my Maypo!  Most of you are way too young to have been around for that.  Roughly translated it means "a day one purchase for me".

I will buy it at release day, but I'll blame it on the peer-pressure from all you guys so I don't come off as a big of a geek.

yes even what Oblivion was. Oblivion actually grew on me. I didn't play it as much because after day 3, it became disapointing, but after a few months, I loved it. Yes it wasn't Morrowind 2, but I fell in love with it, and will support Bethesda TES games.

I am willing to give Matrix and Codeforce a shot. Again, I don't think a 4X games need cutting edge graphics. These are pretty enough, they don't need to be OMFG WOW graphics. As long as game play is great, we really don't need graphics. Hell, I even love playing MOOI still and those are way outdated graphics.

Depends on how long to release and if something else pops up that I am interested in. I don't have time for everthing and I have to watch my money. But we will see.

I don't mind since my country was one of those SMART EU nations that didn't join the Euro(Economic)zone

In fact, it's just become cheaper for me to buy stuff from say Germany and France.

I will try to buy it as soon as it is released. :)

But as I am stuck with satellite DSL, it will take me a while to D/L it. :(

So if all you Broadband user's are "hogging" the bandwidth then I'll get mine a bit later. ;)

I will be buying it as soon as it's released, too!

... So long as it IS less than $50, which it sounds like it will be. I'm not a huge fan of early adopting without reading reviews, but seeing the videos and the ecstatic nature of the beta-testers on these forums is a pretty good 'review' for me!

Yep, buying it as soon as it's released also. However... it depends on what time it's released as Matrix are on US time, and I live in the UK...we'll see I guess! :)
