Ok, so either Thursday of Friday the game will be released. How much will it be? I will be going the prepaid credit card route so I need to know how much I have to put on it, plus I need to butter up the wife. I am assuming I don't have to worry about taxes, or do I have to pay taxes as well?

If anyone from Matrix or Codeforce let us know please? It's hard to butter up the wife, if I have no price to give her. Also what funds would it be in? American I am presuming. I live in Canada, so not shure if I have to pay taxes or not.

I'm estimating that DW'll be coming out for $39.99 (if not less if you end up just downloading it, as seems to be the case with a few other purchases), as that seems to be a fairly common price for new titles around here.

That said, buying through the Canadian office from Matrix Games's online store seems to already account for the currency differences between the American dollar and the Canadian dollar. Not sure about taxes though (DW will be my first purchase from Matrix Games!).

IF it is priced at $39.99, then your local taxes + $6 Digital River access fee (supposedly optional but I didn't see any "option" about it last time) the game should run roughly $49.

If you want the hard Copy also, then add $10 plus a SH fee (generally 4.95 if UPS Ground) = $64+ give or take a buck or 2.

This is what Armada 2526 Digital D/L with hard copy cost me a little over 2 months ago.

! Disclaimer prices may vary upon location and country. :)

What is a Digital River access fee? This sounds like gouging to me. WTF? These guys want me to buy a game from them, but I have to pay for the privlage to buy the game? I do not like the sound of this.

And Hi Joseph, from the Moo3 forums correct?

Digital River has a option for an extended download (guarantee for 2 years that the file will be there) cost $3.99.

Personally I never pay for it as I backup everything and for the most part the download will be there anyways. I have games I bought over 3 years ago that I can still download from Digital River. Just save your order number and password.

That sucks, I have to admit. At least Star Dock lets me redownload when ever I want. No wunder I don't like downloading from the interent. These are things that should be free as a service to us a paying customer. I shouldn't have to pay extra to redownload something that I bought. I don't know, maybe I got to spoiled from Stardock.

Stardock and Steam! I, too, am spoiled with the awesomeness of not having to deal with physical copies of things.

But hey, if what hadberz is saying is true, then it looks like I don't need to buy that Extended Download option as long as I gots the order number and password. Easy enough...

I've always deleted the "Extended Download" item from the shopping cart. Saves me $4.00 or whatever it costs, then just burn the game to CD.

Heh. I had ordered a physical copy(CD and box) of Armada 2526 from the Gamestop website for $39.99 with free shipping; no other fees. It arrived in like 2 days, even though the free shipping stated that it could be 7 to 14 days I think it was. The 2 day shipping was a premium price which I did not choose but I still received it in 2 days.

There's was some official explanation given for the extra fees at the Armada 2526 forum but I disregarded it and ordered it from Gamestop website instead.(see my above post) I didn't like the sound of the extra fees no matter the explanation. Maybe wait to check Gamestop even though it is said Distant Worlds will be available only through Matrix Games. If the game is successful it will most likely soon be sold at many places.

Otherwise, then Matrix Games will be our only option...which is odd if the game is very successful.

I prefer buying 'small' (dev base) games as directly as possible, considering MR. E seems to be good pot with the Matrix.

The thing is.. They get less and less money when there's more hands involved. cheaper price from outside source = less money to begin with - money the selling firm takes (- and in some cases even less as the 'original' distributor wants share as well)

Well if it's only a $5 or so bucks I will get it now, not worth the wait to just save $5 and not be able to play. I will not be happy about it though. Who do they think they are? The Canadian goverment adding all these extra costs or service charges. It is like Ticket Master. I hate it hate it hate it. Why do I have to pay for the privilage to buy something from them.

What's next? I have to pay the grocery store money, so I can buy their product even before I buy the food?

That's what Sam's Club does.

Many people that can easily avoid the fees still accept and pay the fees and that helps Sam's Club, and others, make so much money. Sam's Club fees also help Walmart to have lower prices. Maybe it's like a kind of charity from customers.

Anyway, I, like many people, will try to avoid extra fees if it is convenient to do so. I even am bothered when I am charged a fee of one or two dolllars to choose "debit" on my card. If I choose "credit" on the same card, which still acts as debit, there is no fee.

Don't listen to Wade, he's just trying to stir up trouble. Erik stated that the game will only be sold through the matrix online store. And I've bought many games from there. The so called "digital access fee" is a separate check out item that is added to your order, all you have to do is uncheck it at check out and it will remove it. It's a fee they charge if you want to have access to the game and download it, later... much later. I think it's like up to a year. Otherwise, I believe you have up to a week to download your copy. Then just store it in a safe place or burn it to a cd.

I'm not trying to stir up trouble. It seems like you might be trying to e-duel though...jeez. It seems like you want to dissuade people from having or making alternate possible options. If Distant Worlds stays for sale only through Matrix games then so be it. If it is successful and expands sales to other stores then that might help more customers have more preferable access to purchasing the game. It seems like wise bussiness to want a product widely available.
I'm just contributing to this thread.

I'm simply sating what I've done, my thoughts, and what I like and dislike..like others are doing also. Though, you comment about me by name again. Oh well, no biggy.

I wanted the Armada 2526 CD and box without needing to pay an extra FEE of $10 so I had checked the Gamestop website like a week or two after release, since I was playing another game anyway, and there it was at Gamestop website; $39.99 WITH free shipping that took 2 days(though it stated 1 to 2 weeks I think), no other fees.

Again, I'm just contributing to this thread.

Hi Davor!

Yes I'm the MoO3 JosEPh.

Only one of my kind.

My total cost w/o the Extended Digital River came to $62.06. This is the Dig D/L plus Hard copy and I used regular mail for $8.95 vs UPS ground for $10.95 for SH.

My D/L is now at 36%.

I have Satellite DSL which is rather slow. So I have an hour or so to kill before I can start the installation process.

JosEPh

You need to read again. Credit cards charge more in all aspects over debit cards. Both to the businesses taking them and from the customer using them.

Good Hunting.

Well my purchase was about $48. I got the extra what ever it's called, so I can re download it again. For an extra $5 I thought it was worth it, the way I loose disks and my computer crashes. Now I know what it is, I think it's a good investment, at least for me to downloand it again 24 hours a day without worrying to try can contact someone to help. Now I hope to get my purchase in order and get that email to tell me to download the game
