Andy,

I have a few questions.

With KB around, how could you get any of those reinforcement troops to Fiji?

Given the units that were destroyed on Ceylon, what will you attack it with?

Regarding Marshalls/Gilberts invasion - carrier support?

KB is long gone I destroyed over 400 aircraft in those battles off Fiji it cost me but I did it he will be back but I have a few days I have already shipped in 2 full regiments from NZ with more en route.

He doesnt have air superioirty over Fiji at present....I do

If he wants to contest it seriously he will need to bring back KB as more and more of my modern types and better pilots get to the front that will cost him.

He has one AF in the area if he wants to LR sweep me from there fair enough the A6M2 is beatable when you have P38's and P40's and even P39's in numbers with good pilots I have enough pool density to stand up to him and enough DD's and PT boats to protect my AF from a BB visit

I have over 60 SBD's and 18 of the deadliest fighting machines known to man.....the wait for it Vildebeeste - I love those planes !!! waiting for his BB's if they come back.

Ceylon you are right but not entirely.

I have 14th, 17th, 2nd Br, 70th Br Divs 26th Indian Bde plus 3 Armoured Bdes prepping as we speak and a US Div coming in from Capetown.

I can proabably find 6+ Divs add in 11th Indian and the reborn 18th British from Perth and I can probabyl retake Ceylon say 10 Divs total.

Marhsalls probably to much but I still hold baker and Canton and Tarawa looks empty....

The DD's and DM's were ordered to flank speed to get under the air envelope at Fiji

The transports have scattered to the 4 winds and are moving at 3/3 speed so we shall see how they go

The main convoy will be just under Fiji LRCAP but it probably wont be good enough.

Ground combat at Suva (132,160)
This was the last turn I do wonder if it was enough can he still take the island....does he have enough supply ?

No bombardment by his arty makes me wonder if he has enough supply

That was the relative strength pre the first attack

Allies Attacking force 40931 troops, 916 guns, 915 vehicles, Assault Value = 1562
Japanese Defending force 92762 troops, 1157 guns, 1422 vehicles, Assault Value = 3171

And today

Allies Attacking force 2889 troops, 226 guns, 125 vehicles, Assault Value = 1516
Japanese Defending force 87714 troops, 1152 guns, 1024 vehicles, Assault Value = 2680

I have lost 2 fort levels but my average xp has went up 10 points and he has lost about 15% of his front line strength

I have another 150 AV at Nadi in two resting Regiments with more en route although they may be interdicted now.

Not sure if I can hold or not at present need to wait and see

There are three operations I am seriously considering now thwat String is toed to Fiji for a while

1. a direct invasion of Java - very very risky but the payoff is huge.
2. retake ceylon
3. attack marshalls/gilberts

Of these 3 options, I would totally dismiss #3. It is:
(a) too close to the KB moving up from Suva to interdict your operations
(b) doesn't have much stategic value as it won't close the enemy SLOC to Suva
(c) stacking limits make them too vulnerable to counter invasion under cover of KB

Option #1 is better but only has a huge payoff if you have the forces available to exploit, viz air power to interdict enemy convoys in the South China Sea or the Makassar Strait. It also means you will have vulnerable SLOCs - leaving you with the difficult choice of whether to you use your airpower to neutralise the Sumatran airbases (and thus forego projecting Allied airpower over South China Sea/Makassar Strait).

Option #2 is safest. It is:
(a) close to your supply lines
(b) is furthest away from the KB
(c) KB intervention incurs substantial risk from Allied LBA out of southern/eastern India
(d) you already have substantial forces prepped
(e) recovery of Ceylon reopens the fuel/oil pipeline from Abadan to Australia and thus makes your opponents move to Suva quite moot as Australia would not be isolated even if Fiji falls
(f) makes a subsequent move on Sumatra/Java far less risky

I agree that you should take the offensive now, even if not fully prepped, whilst your opponent is fighting in Fiji.

Alfred

I would also go with 2 to start with. Especially if you will be able to destroy some enemy units, if there´s nothing left on Ceylon when you attack it will be a cake walk. You should have enough recon squadrons in India to make sure what really is there when you decide what you´re going to attack.

a) No TF's within range of Malaya AF's. Entire Malaya invasion overland!

b) LBA coverage of Java invasion.

c) Java invasion only after Java cut off of Java from air reinforcement from Australia.

Sneaky bugger!

Just been doing some maths....

String has 8 Divs on Fiji
Looks like 2 or 3 on Ceylon
Say 1 in North Australia
1 in Java
Maybe 3 ?? in Burma

He has c 12 at start that he can deploy add in 4 ish for Scen 2

So 16 in total plus it takes 2 months PP's to buy out a Div but he must have spent at least one or two months worth on Arty

So that leaves him with max 3 Divs from Kwantang.

So 19 Max deployable Divs

Call it 20 to be safe

I know where 10 are and can make educated guesses about another 5 or 6

He doesnt really have much left in the tank....

Maybe the best strategy is an overland attack into Burma now....force him to commit to stop me without needing naval assets.

Leave Ceylon to wither on the vine

java is to risky I agree

I still hold Akyab so I am tempted to go overland from there into Burma proper

20 deployable divisions for the Japanese at this date? Andy, you´ve just ruined my day.

I have never understood the fascination with either taking Ceylon as Japan or fighting hard to hold it as the Allies. It has no significant effect on the war in Burma or India.

Overall, maybe so. In the current Grand Campaign - until/unless they fix it - there are 2 British CV's and a British CVL that arrive on Ceylon (instead of off-map) and will be 'destroyed while building' if Colombo and Trincommalee are captured.

Ceylon IRL was vital for keeping the gulf open.

In WITP it protects Western India

I hope the Ceylon carrier destroyed bug gets fixed in next patch to late for me but should be done

Today was a good day the full Div arty set for 41st Div arrived on Fiji during the night and a Regts worth of Infantry unloaded at Nadi when recombined I think Fiji just got a noce boost.

20 Destroyers await whatever the japanese try tomorrow.

Today was a good day USS Seadragon put a torpedo intot he Hiyo - FINALLY an allied sub does its job !!!

And then to top it off 160 japanese naval aircraft were destroyed 90+ Zeroes and 60+ Nells and Betties

Not sure where the kates and vals were.

I lost 50 ish but my extra reserve aircraft in Sqns more or less replenished all my fighter losses so I remain at full strength

Not sure whats going on it could be a 2nd wave not sure yet
