I’ve managed to isolate a repeatable crash, it’s crashed three times in a row. My devastator capital ship is about to arrive near the neutral world ringed by pirates. When the battle commences, I focus fire on the larger pirates first as they swarm my Devastator. After I’ve killed about 4-6 of them, the game crashes and I get this screen:

The numbers on the error screen are identical each time it crashes.

I don’t know if it matters or not, but I killed the pirate base in another system right before this, so perhaps the pirates are trying to flee and the game crashes because they have no base. That’s the only thing I can think of.

I’ll post the save game in another post below this one.

Jim

OK, the save is 40+ megs zipped, so I can't upload here. Is there an email I can send it to?

Jim

Erik will have a location for you to upload this Jim when he comes back online. Thanks very much for getting a savegame with this issue - that will be invaluable to resolving it.

Thanks Elliot

Hi Jim,

Thanks for capturing this with a save. Please name your save something that tells us what it is (like "Jim Burns March 26 Crash") and upload your save to:

Server: beta.matrixgames.com Login: DistantWorldsCustomer Password: upload Port: 21

Please not that the Login and Password are case sensitive. We recommend using FileZilla to connect to our FTP server.

File sent.

Jim

Edit: Whoops, just realized I renamed the zip, but not the save file inside. Sorry about that.

I`m also experiencing a crash.

I`ve started a new game where i decided to add one planet, remove the other one and rename all planets in the system in game editor. Then i scrapped all military ships and designed my own, also i have redesigned freighters and mining stations in attempt to attach some weapons to them. I have also deleted a whole star with all objects in it.

In addition i remove automation from both constructors and manually send explorer to a neares star.

After finishing designing and giving orders i unpause the game and it crashes a few moments later.

Here is a save: http://www.okim.nickersonm.com/dw/save.dwg Here is a dxdiag: http://www.okim.nickersonm.com/dw/dxdiag.txt

Another repeating crash.

This one happens everytime when the new race is discovered

(German error reads: DW encountered a problem and has to be closed)

And this one happened one during one of my 4 reruns of the savegame

I put the dxdiag and the savegame on the ftp (spec10_crash_march_26.rar, spec10_crash_march_26_DxDiag.txt)

Thank you, Spec10, we will see if we can duplicate it here.

I have exactly the same crash as spec10`s first one.

I have updated to a latest version of DW and these crashes started to happen exactly after that.

I have also found a strange graphical anomaly - i found a supernova and tried to look closer at it.

Here is what i saw while being zoomed out. And here how it looks a bit closer. A vortex image dissapears and the whole screen turns red-orange.

EDITED:

I have removed DW from my stationary PC with XP and installed it on notebook with Vista hoping that it wont crash there. In fact it doesn`t even launch and produces this error message:

Here is a dxdiag taken from notebook with vista: http://okim.nickersonm.com/dw/vista-dxdiag.txt

Okim,

Thanks for the report.

The second crash on your Vista system is the regional format issue, known issue and being fixed. You will need to change your regional format per the Tech Support FAQs thread as a work-around until we get a fix out for that.

Regards,

- Erik

I mentioned that it happens when the new race is discovered, but that seems to be merely a coincidence. Gave it another try and now it happened a few days later in early january.

//edit: And if I don't hit the ok/close button of the error message (1st screenshot, not 2nd, 2nd error happened only once but that one halted the game immediately), the game keeps running despite the message. For now I'm just moving the error window into a corner and keep on playing, but still, would be nice if it would be solved a bit more elegant :D

//edit2: It seems like ignoring the error message like I did isn't gonna help. Civilian ships seem to be affected by the error. Many of those just go idle when the error occurs and that crashes the economy :/

By the way, for anyone experiencing these random crashes, can you please try adding a DEP exception for DW? Instructions:

http://www.updatexp.com/dep-exceptions.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Execution_Prevention

The patch didn't fix it, the error in first screenshot still happens every time :(

//edit:

From another thread:

Ok, we will definitely look at that save file. It's also possible the cause of the issue is resolved but the problem is already in the save file. Try a new game with the public beta and see if any of these issues re-occur please.

I will give it a try, the thought with the error in the savegame makes sense :)

Does anyone know if the supernova graphical anomaly IS in fact an anomaly? As with Okim, when I zoom in on one, it also goes red/orange.
