Updated to the 1.02 version and started a small (250 system) game with just one other race. I was Dhayut; they were Atuuk. Things started out pretty good. My expansion phase came along nicely and I adopted Way of the Ancients as my government type. I bumped into the Atuuk and we started trading. A short while after the trading started, I found a World Destroyer. The Atuuk had already found it, however, and had started work on completing it. Since you can't let that kind of firepower fall into the wrong hands, I destroyed the construction ship and brought in one of my own. The Atuuk protested the fact that I had attacked their ships but I ignored them, focusing exclusively on finishing the World Destroyer. Once finished I had to test it, and what better way to do so than to take out an Atuuk planet. Ah, firepower... Anyway, after I started on my planet-busting spree, my own colonies started to revolt. I ignored that too, thinking I would have time to go fix things later. Not so. After wiping out about five planets the Atuuk surrendered but 21 of my own colonies broke off to form their own government. About 10 minutes later, another 39 colonies seceded, leaving my own empire smaller then either of the two break-aways. At that point I quit but I did learn a valuable lesson: don't get so caught up in any one area that you forget the big picture.
