Hi! Patch 1.02 fixed my crash bugs, and I can now play for hours and hours on end :D These are some impressions of how the AI makes its own job really hard. Long story short, the game slowed down to a crawl, and I had to quit the application using manager. Problem is that after a restart my savegame was corrupted, giving me an out of memory warning. Odd-ball AI behaviour: I was at war, and the AI Sluken had a lot of ships flying around, but never gathered them in fleets again after I killed his initial puny 2 and 3 ships fleets which he clevery sent deep into my territory. This effectively allowed me to just fly in and pick off his colonies one by one. The AI colonised like crazy (a good thing), but rather than colonising planets close to my territory he colonised planets far, far away, stretching my defences a lot and basically creating problems for itself in terms of shipping resources and refueling. My supply ships never deployed, and were just hanging around in deep space or enemy territory with no fuel and I had to retire them to get rid of the problem. There were a lot of locations where he could have deployed them, but he never did. I also noticed that the AI creates the supply ships with quite few fuel tanks making the supply ships require frequent refuelling, which strikes me as very odd. The same applies to colony ships. Two of my fleetes were roaming around like crazy all the time, hanging around other empires territories and making me very unpopular. This just shouldn't happen. If they don't have a specific task they should just stick to roaming around my territory, and in places where fuel is readily available. This of course creates a ton of problems, most importantly being constantly out of fuel and pissing off my neighbours and friends. Another fleet issue is that rather than making many smaller fleets I saw, both in my empire an the AIs, one or two huge fleets. While this gives a lot of punch it limits the ability to retaliate against pirates and hunting down freighters and such. Coupled with the wanderlust it means I really had to micro my fleets at all times to use them effectively. better mix of fleets, some fast response and some heavy hitters. The AI recommendations during war are also very strange. It will suggest flying far beind my fuel range to strike at my enemys heavily defended capital world, or to use my early 20 ships heavy fleet to take out a lonely little research base. This is odd, since there were relatively undefended colonies on my border, and while they might not ahve been juicy targets, they would serve the AI as a supply point into my territory, and some of the closest worlds were even in the same solar system as my own. Concerning troops, I think that the fleets should make a far greater effort to stock themselves with troops. A lot of times the AI suggested attacking a world, and the fleet it suggested had no troops. Perhaps have load troops function like refuel, load troops at nearest or at base or some such? --- The game runs a lot smoother now, and my economy was growing steadily all the time. Still tons of room for improvement, but I'm lovin it.
