So i started the game and noticed that my ships started moving on their own, in few seconds they jumped away and i was like wtf ? I dont like to see my assets move on their own, i prefer to micromanage everything so i know where everyone is going and whats going on. I then disabled the automation, i set everything to manually and still the ships jump away on their own. I just started the game so i know where they went cause i only have 1 sistem (they went to some mining bases around the system) but when i advance in game and expand quite abit, how can i keep track of everything if they simply jump around with no notice ?

Am i to assume that the ships in a sistem will constantly patrol it and not leave the sistem ? If yes will the new ships i build will start patroling ? How can i disable this ? thanks

Although you disabled AI control, your ships are likely to still have the "automation" order, just select one and check if there's a little blue circle in the right bottom of his infos. If there is one, it means the ship is still automated, just give him an order to disable that.

Also, it's much much better to let some, if not most, of your ships on automated, you definitely don't want to make them escort civilian ships or starbases yourself. ;)

Be sure to read the manual or check out the galactopedia to get the basic concepts of the game first.

Your empire is divided into the private sector and the state sector. Ships and bases in the state can be controlled manually by you (they include things like military ships, space ports, construction ships etc). Ships in the private sector are automated and do their own thing like transport migrants and commodities, therefore including ships like freighters and passenger ships.

In short, just ignore the freighters, mining bases, mining ships and passenger ships. They're busy doing the boring stuff

Edit: If you meant that your state ships are flying about automatically then I'm sorry, as Tree Dog said, give the ship an order manually to stop it's automation.

hmm ok, thanks for the quick reply

I dont mind my ships moving on their own, escorting civilian ships, exploring but i do mind the fact that all newly built ships start fully automated, and i dont think that there is a way to disable this feature or at least limit it to certain ships ...

One more thing, do construction ships go around the whole galaxy and build mining bases and starbases and whatever they build , or they stick in the solar sistem ? Cause after some time it will get pretty hard to keep track of everything. Immagine a construction ship that builds a starbase in another sistem and i wake up with messages like "ur starbase is under attack from ...", would be like wtf ?when did i build that there ?!!?
Idk about you guys but i prefer to know where everything is and is going ...

EDIT : I suppose its just a mather of getting used to this, i never play games with automation feature set to on, i always turn it off.

Yeah there should be an option to turn automation on or off. Maybe even at the construction screen. Does said ship go on Automation once produced or not.

The game comes with two sets of ships in  your empire. Those you control and those you don't. The Private Sector ships do what they want and you can never give them orders. They are always under the direction of the AI.

I think it's mostly those ships you see leaving but some of the military version, the ones you do control, can also leave for patrol zones. That is not a bad thing either.

To stop anyone from leaving tell the game to start and immediately hit the space bar to pause it. Then set your AI control levels and unpause to play.

Good Hunting.

i know of the 2 types of ships , the private and the "military" ships, i couldnt care less about the private ships but i do care about my ships I build. In galactopedia is stated clearly that newly built ships start off fully automated ... now i havent tested this but if i read this right means ALL ships start automated, destroyers , builders and so on. Take for example this situation, i decide to build a task force (fleet) and go and conquer someone with it, so i build alot of military ships (battleships, destroyers and so on), if they all start off automated imma go crazy disabling every single ships automation, take into consideration that i build on multiple planets so not just one ... so everytime a ships is build i have to select it, disable the automation orders and move to the next ship doing the same procedure over and over again for every ship i build. Now that doesnt cause much problems if i have 1-2 planets building stuff but its very hard to do when u got 5-10+ planets building...

EDIT: i want to mention that i havent playied the game for lot of time, i don't know all there is to know about the game, so if i am saying wrong things please excuse me. I have read a good part of galactopedia but there is still a piece i have to finish reading

I also find it irritating that you cannot default your newly built military ships to *not* be automated.  I've placed this request in the "Wish List" thread.

I'd recommend keeping an eye on your scrolling messages (at the top center), which you should do anyways, and when you see a "new ship constructed" message go to your ship list and throw it into a fleet of some sort, and give that fleet any order to disable any automation going on (tell it to refuel, patrol, go to position x, whatever).  If you've lost track of a number of automated military ships, just filter your ship list for military ships, sort the list by fleet, then cntrl-click on all the ships w/o a fleet and assign them one, *then* give that fleet a mission.

Protip:  If your fleet is idling around some sort of fuel point (i.e. colony, starport or deployed refueling ship), go to the fleet menu and set the fleet's home to that location.  That way the fleet will periodically refuel on its own  (and this is the only way fleets do that currently - it must be next to its "home").

In regards to civilian building: you *want* the civilian ships building mining and research facilities on their own (although you can, and I do, prioritize a new facility location from time to time) - the universe is a big place and your micro-management would quickly wear you out.  Just think of it like our modern society: nations have companies that have interests all over the world, sometimes that obligates the nation to intervene for protection, but it is always a financial benefit to that nation regardless (via taxes and resource access).

Hi guys,

We have heard the request, thanks for adding it to the wish list thread as well. I agree it would be a useful option to have.

Regards,

- Erik
