Is there a way to see what resolution I am playing at? does it just choose the desktop resolutioN? My problem is that some of the text is just too small for me to see, and I'd like to make a it a little bigger if possible. Any ideas?

other than that, I am really enjoying the game. This is my first Matrix purchase, and I look forward to more games in the future.

It uses the desktop res and you can do anything bout the text size. Hopefully, the new patch will fix this :D

Uh, isn't using the desktop res a bit of a gamble? I know quite a few people who run desktop resolutions they won't or can't use in 3D applications or games because their hardware can't handle it.

Well, then they have to turn down the desktop res b4 starting the game. Not that much of a biggie now is it? Might be added at a later date :)

And back up when finished. Sorry, that isn't really userfriendly. At all. ;)

I'm not affected personally, but if I was, I would be seriously annoyed. They give rather few options to tweak performance in general. Let's just hope they patch it in, or at least make it available in some config or commandline parameter.

The game runs at the resolution of the desktop because it runs in windowed mode (with no borders). At least, that's the impression i have.

Could be right. The behaviour when clicking on the second monitor supports that - DW doesn't minimise like a fullscreen app.

Doesn't mean that resolution shouldn't be adjustable. Or being able to choose between windowed and fullscreen (some videocards perform better in the one or the other).

so has anything changed with the latest updates? I just bought the game and I can´t find any options to change resolution and especially text size.

I am using a 22`` TFT and a 1920x1080 resolution and I can´t read anything. I am not the type who starts a rant easily, but this is at least for me an absolute game killer. And I refuse to change the resolution in windows everytime before and after I play DW and rearrange all the icons afterward. Honestly, this is ridiculous.

I would be very grateful if anyone had a solution for this. Otherwise I would have to dump the game and loose 40€ since most retailers here usually will not take back games once they were opened.
I really do not understand why developers only rarely take under consideration that the text size under higher resolutions should be adjustable or at least bigger than something only an eagle with an electron microscope strapped to his head can read.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. :)

That nothing was done about the resolution is really a shame. I was looking forward to getting bashed in space, but right now I have not played one single hour. Right now DW means nothing to me than a loss of 40 € (thats 54 USD), because I can´t read anything without leaning close to my TFT and squinting my eyes.

I lowered the resolution to 1600x900 and still can not read at least the key entries on the galactopedia and other smaller texts and as soon as I lower the resolution any further the game refuses to start because it can not recognise the resolution.
Not to mention that I totally refuse to rearrange all the desktop icons every time.

I know it is just a game, but right now I am angry. Very.
The last game with such tiny fonts was "Dragon Age", but at least very soon a mod came out to fix that. DW on the other hand is a complete loss for me. Next time I feel like buying something from Matrix Games I try to remember that I might as well burn my money or buy a couple of toy rockets and play offline. :(

How can it be that developers completely missed the invention of high res TFTs or the existence of visually impaired customers? Honestly, I don´t get it. This is one of the things that make me not buy any game of a game company ever again. I know, I know... Matrix games is totally able to live without my money, but it´s still a shame...

It is, yes. Bear in mind though that Matrix is only the publisher, the game is developed by a single guy actually....and we have tons of pages on the wishlist with request that for any of us seem reasonable. I'm not saying that they aren't but.....one guy
And yes, I've already requested that Elliot clones himself for our benefit

Hm, I did not know this. I have read the wishlist and there is an awful lot of things to do as I see it. And I understand that every user has the same rights, so I will just have to wait.

On the other hand - most users are at least able to actually play the blooody thing. And from the perspective of the consumer I really do not care if one man is working at the game or 100 or 6 trained monkeys and a donkey. :) All I see is the fact that I just spend quite some money for a product that just does not work. Thats a pity since I spend some time reading through the forums and now I am even more convinced, that DW actually is a neat game. Just not for me, though.

Hey,

I have the same specs, 22' monitor and 1920x1080 and I can read everything.
I'll check at home later and maybe I can figure out how to help.

Thanks,
Tedesco

Hey Angry Alien,

I've search through all game files but I couldn't find that much to help. I believe that almost all UI configurations are hard coded, with exception of the images.
Here's my game running on 1920*1080. I can read all of it perfectly.

The only thing I've found a way to increase the font size is the galactopedia. Here's how it i now:

Not that much, but maybe can help you to enjoy this wonderful game.
If you're interested in this alteration on the galactopedia I can upload for you the files.

Thanks,
Tedesco

@ Tedesco

Thanks a lot for doing this for me!

Being able to read the Galactopedia would be a huge improvement, so if you upload the files I would be very very grateful.
I take it that I have to drop those files into the customisation folder?

Hi Angry Alien,

Just unzip the file into your main DW folder. (You'll need 7Zip to unzip the files)

Have a nice game

Hi Tedesco,

again, thank you very much for your efforts. Your files do exactly what they are supposed to do - I am finally able to read at least a part of the text without problems. Aaah, what a relieve.

Unfortunately every other entry, like the key entries in the Galactopedia and every other text in the game, is still a mess of thin grey blurry lines for me.

I am very grateful for your help, I only wish it would not be in vain.

Hey, no problem. Glad to help. :)

Just one question, do you have the expansion Return of the Shakturi? I ask because I've sent you the files based on the DW + expansion... Maybe there is the problem for those entries.

Cheers,
Tedesco

Hi Alien,

Could you please post a screenshot of what you are seeing in the game? Running at 1920 x 1080 here, things are quite clear.

Regards,

- Erik

I'm usually running the game at 1920*1200 on my 15,6" inc laptop and it's sometimes a bit hard to read so I wouldn't mind a bit bigger text.

@ Tedesco

Nope, I don´t have the expansion. It is, as I take it, not available in Germany right now. And why would I buy it? I have not even played the first game. :D
Anyway, I think when the game had a problem with your files then it would not even start, would it? And the entries in the Galacopedia are in nice large letters now, only the key entries on the right site are still microscopic. I guess since you can klick them they are hardcoded as well.

@ Erik Rutins

Maybe my saying about blurry grey lines are a bit mistakable. Actually they letters look okay and what I am seeing in the game is is pretty much equivalent to Tedescos first screenshot. (But of course I will still post a pic if you want me to.)

Blurry grey lines is what I am seeing on 1920 x 1080 as well as on 1600 x 900 and with a distance to my TFT bigger than 2 feet (and even then I have to squint). See, I am pretty myopic. Add to this an heavy astigmatism and you might understand why I am not able to read anything and why I would be so happy about bigger letters.

Well, no help in sight...

I was tinkering with the game for some time and still could not find adjustments that would fix my problem. There seems to be no way to enlarge those tiny little letters.

I will stop buggering with my problem, kick the game in the bin (and accept loosing 40€ that way) and remember not to buy any games from Matrix anytime soon.

Hey, try this.

It automatically changes your desktop resolution when you start the game, you can choose whatever you want. Makes things much easier on the eyes!

I have to agree and say that the worst thing about the UI in this game is the game font. Yeah, it looks a bit sci-fi and probably better than times new roman, but still....

Thank you very much for trying to help, but this will not work. As already said at least on my rig the game refuses to start with resolutions lower than 1600x900. And even with this resolution I am not able to decipher those tiny letters. I guess I would have to go as low as 800x600 and I did not even want to imagine how terrible the game would look then on my huge 16:9 monitor.
