RUsco,

:) Wau has a level 1(0) airfield. What this means is that with a lot of supplies and engineers is can be expanded to a level 3(0) airfield. As a level 1(0) airfield you can operate up to 50 aircraft from it without penalty. You can also fly supplies into it. For more information or restrictions placed on size 1 airfield see section 11.22 "Aircraft on Size 1 Airfields".

:) BTW the PBY Catalina (IIRC starting with the PBY-5A in Dec '39) had retractable landing gear and was capable of landing on land and the sea.

See above. NO AIRFIELD. It is still size (0). C-47's can not fly in or out yet.

Rusco what scenario are you playing

Wau starts as a level 1 in all the scenarios I've seen

Gold was discover near Wau in the 30s and an airfield was built to get supplies into out of the long before the war.

Rusco,

:) The number (0) is the SPS (Standard Potential Size) the 1 (ouside of the parenthesis) before it is the current size of the airfield or port. BTW the SPS is the size a port or airfield can be built to with minimal effort and supplies. To go over the SPS requires more in the way of supplies, time and engineers. A port of airfield can be increased to the SPS + 3. So Wau with an SPS of (0) for is airfielded with a lot of effort can be increased to a size 3 airfield.

You guys are right, Wau has a size 1 Airfield.

You should not have gotten that message. Right from the beginning you should be able to fly C-47s into Wau. Unless, of course, you are playing the Japanese. ;)
