can anyone tell me if bombarding torpedo weapons can also be used against ships?

their stats seem to have both anti ship and planet damage...

No. It is clearly stated in its characteristics that it has no normal damage. Only bombard damage.

Game considering old torpedo to be obsolete rather than of a different class compared to bombs is obviously an overlook. Bombardment weaponry was added few weeks before the release after all...

okim,

while it is true that the nuclear devastator has ship damage of 0, the plasma desolator has both planet and ship damage (30). I have not tested it to see if it fires on enemy ships. I was wondering if anybody has...

The problem is that, even though both are considered Torpedos.

Once you research a bombard torpedo and click on a ship design who uses torpedo to "UPGRADE", it will change all the anti ship torpedo weapons and replace it with anti colonies torpedos.
