ORIGINAL: anarchyintheuk Agreed. Started popularization campaign by calling my brother one on the phone. I feel good about this effort. Hmmm....cultural debate ensues... Technically speaking, folks, wouldn't the appropriate (or inappropriate, as the case may be) limey-ism here "prat"? Obviously, a wanker is one who, well, wanks. Let's move on without further descriptors. IIRC, isn't a 'prat' more of a descriptor for an annoyingly immature person? Least that's what my Kiwi interpreter told me / called me once upon a time. Anyways, wouldn't 'prat' be more appropo in this picture? Wanker is better. So, T, you're more of a wanker fan, then? I'm a fan of the term. As Mynok mentioned, almost nobody in the States knows what it means for sure, but they're all pretty sure it's an insult. Count me in for the popularization campaign. I don't know the exact definition either, if there is one, but it's definitly an insult. I recall on the TV show Married with Children (an insult in itself) that Peggy's maiden name was Wanker. Her family was always portrayed as low-life, in-breeding imbiciles. I'm pretty sure I know what the exact definition is. Let's say that it's slang for one that 'enjoys the pleasures of his own company' or one that 'is on very close terms with Rosy Palmer' or...well, surely you get the gist now?
