Just started to play that game again and it is quite fun. Now I would like to try a PBEM with a relaxed schedule. I prefer to play the German side, because I never played the Russians up to now.

That's only if you choose a secure game right? I mean, we are - but I just wanted to check I read the manual correctly about that bit.

The manual has a section that outlines the steps to setup a secure email game of Kharkov.  But yes, in this case the German player creates the game file and sends it to the Soviet player.
