I am at 2/1/43 After securing PM I sent all the Jap CV back to
Tokyo for refit. Since that time my reinforce probability has never
left 'HIGH' yet no CV have been released. It is fortunate for me
that my opponent doesnt realize I have no CV. By my estimate
he should have at least 5 of his own. (He has lost none)

I wont be able to do much when he starts his push. YES there
are plenty of DD in Tokyo in excess of 30.

In addition, it seems to me that once you take PM the USA
player is able to stop you cold with Land Based aircraft. He doesnt
need CV's at all. I am not exagerating here. If you push it
in say Australia you will start losing CV. So the game drags
up to the point when the USA player gets the Essex.

I sent all my BB back to Tokyo in an attempt to provoke a
release of CV. Didnt mean a thing. Is something broken?

GHQ in Tokyo may be contemplating an invasion of Hawaii.........

but really, the AI can be extremely fickle sometimes when in comes to sending ships back. I've had Saratoga sitting at Pearl for two months, but no movement to get her back to me (in fact, the AI sent Wasp back first, even though Saratoga was ready & repaired earlier).

I can only imagine the kind of variables the AI uses to determine when & what gets sent back to you. It could depend on your victory level, what is already in theater, and a bunch of behind the programming things we never see and probably barely could comprehend.

How long have the carriers been there? It seems like the AI sends its ships out of HQ about once a month (unless something drastic happens). I try not to send back too many ships to try to provoke a response, as I may need those ships earlier than I originally thought.

I'd start preparing for the riposte from the Allies - make sure your Bettys & Nells are rested and ready for when those American CVs make their appearance. Besides PM - what else do you have a hold of?

I hold PM with the 18th army(all of it) the 8th army
elements are at Gili Gili

ALL of the 17th army is sitting on Lunga.

The USA has a 4,3 base at Nevea(santa cruz)
all of australia and just landed at Rennal with just about the entire USA fleet. He is using his carriers as one HUGE umbrella
that blows everything out of the sky. He has three CVE That I can see. He seems in no hurry to do anything and I suspect his
plan is to build up Rennal and blow the crap out of Lunga
and Tulagi. I cant really oppose that since most of my air power
is dueling in Australia. I have squarons with incredible
kill scores (+50 and such)

But all My Betty are on Rabual waiting for the opening.

It seems that CV are never released alone but always with their TF - it means DD but also CA ... Do you have any CA available in Japan ?

After checking I see there are two CA in Tokyo. So I sent some back. I dont think I can stop him with just Land based planes.
But I have all Betty groups at full strength and rested.
Problem is, putting them on Lunga is ASKING to be bombarded.
However, 17th army is actually VERY strong. I am not sure
2nd Amph corp can beat them. Of course if he sails within range
of Torpedoes from Rabual I will cause very severe casualties.

carriers and battleships **** pampered babies.

You might try building up the airfield at Shortland (and/or Buin) in order to bring your LBA closer to Lunga without having to base them at Lunga. This would also extend the range of interdiction out quite a ways towards Noumea/Luganville.
