I think I may be playing too much AE. This morning, when I was driving to work, I plowed through a flight of previously yellow green insects who alerted me to their presence with a short barage of impacts on the windshield.

"Hmmmm....I wonder if that was a Chutai or an understrength Daitai?" For a brief second i found myself looking at the navigation screen to see the combat replay.

Here is what I imagine they used to look like.

Feb. 7: After the improbably successful SBD attacks on the Jap transports at New Ullapool, I figure Johnny Jap will be hitting the airfield at New Edinburgh again. Oh well, can't be helped. I changed half the P-39's to CAP over the airfield (the other 50% can stay in their tents until their depression ends) and set the 7 serviceable F4F's to escort the SBD's. I also brought in 2 understrength B-26 squadrons from Suva along with their 1st Lt. CO's and 3 gross of adult diapers as they are not toilet trained yet. The B-26's are ordered to attack Jap ground troops already ashore. Good luck to them.

The USN carrier TF's were intercepted by a Jap sub 200 nm NE of Sydney. I assume the Japs will deduce these are carrier TF's. That is not so bad as they can now easily escape. I will try to make them disappear again by going South, thence East to New Zealand.

A young P-39 pilot lies suspended from a parachute. He is curiously charismatic, and wears a confident expression despite the fact that he has just narrowly escaped death on his first combat mission while battling three veteran IJN Zero pilots. Against regulations, he wears a well trimmed beard. Nobody would even think of telling thim to shave it off. He is the most interesting man in the squadron. All the men in the squadron want to be him. The gay men want to be with him. They don't ask, of course, they instinctively know it would be inappropriate. Plus, they might get kicked out of the US Army Air Corps and miss all the fun.

The young pilot adjust the lines of the chute which he has custom modified to improve control. He redirects his descent toward Belep Island. Below he can just make a group of excitable men with bones in their noses (to be clear, each man has one nose with one bone in it but I didn't know how to say that exactly) and machetes. "This should be interesting", the young pilot says to himself.........

Maj. Morisey, Squadron CO: Well, Hell! Give 'em some Parchisi boards or something. I need the morale up around here. We are supposed to provide a CAP today......

Young Lt.: .....so a termite walks into a bar and says, "Is the bar tender here?" <after a short pause, there is uproarious laughter, despite the fact that none on the men in loin cloths speak English>

The Admiral in charge of the invasion of New Scotland was apparently so traumatized by the carnage among Jap transports on the first day of the landing that he made up a silly story about some volcano grounding air flights in France. Oh...suuuuure

If I have to go much longer without a turn I may....I don't know, but I need some AE to forget about my tax payment. Maybe i'll go out and plant some bulbs.

Here is a question. Are Hawaiian Dept. LCU's restricted? How come I cant load them on TF's?

54 Brigade arrives at Lautem, a base force is on the way. After much effort the TBs arrive at Darwin to find... no torpedoes! Great.

Batavia is surrounded. Singapore still stands, glowering at the hordes on the far bank.

A supply convoy is leaving Cape Town bound for Perth, we really need the supplies in Western Oz to support the effort out of Darwin, I'm hoping we can use Lautem/Darwin to point a dagger at the DEI, thus reducing the garrisons in the central Pacific in the future.

6th Australina Div is at Karachi, the 7th is arriving at Aden. I know 8th Army will miss them but we need them more right now. Both Divs will remain in India until we see how the threat to the Imphal area shapes up. If it goes quiet then they'll be shipped to Oz, maybe for a future DEI campaign.

A bare shirted man with a neatly trimmed beard pushes off from Belep Is. in an outrigger with a small triangular sail. Every woman under 80 on the island is there to say goodbye...well come to think of it..she died suddenly of excitement so it is every woman on the island. There is no shortage of tears from those on the shore. The Chief stands knee deep in the water and hands the young Lt. a talisman of shrunken heads. The chief raises his weathered first and pronounces, "klaatu barada nicto". This translates roughly to "go safely, my friend, you will always be with us and...by the way..what do you use to trim your beard?"

Thre is a spontaneous "HOORAH!" from the men. A few in near catatonia literally jump to their feet. Someone proposes, "Hey let's go have a drink to celebrate!"....

Wooden teak shutters are half open, revealing most of the pilots of 39th PS in fitful slumber after a night of "celebrating". Innumerable empty bottles of rum dot the establishment.

A junior Army Air Corps officer enters the bar and shouts, "Inbound Jap planes! The Major wants everyone aloft!" Despite the obvious fatigue, each man is up and out the door in seconds. The turn around in the squadron is palpable.
