Here is 39th Pursuit Squadron after the news of the recovery of the beared Lt., Morale surges 50 points in one day! Of course, they are running on empty from a fatigue standpoint.

This brings up another question. How come the B-26's won't fly? Is it their Lt.-rank CO's or the airfield size (2)?* There is plenty of supply, I Amphib Corps is in New Edinburgh but there is no Air command and the ground support is low.

*Pretend I didn't read the rules.

********24 m South of Koumac (New Ullapool), 18:20, Feb. 7, 1942*******

Col. Robert "Call me Bob" Pepper, CO 3rd Marine Defence Bn.:
I'm sorry son, I am going to have to cancel the second showing of New South Pacific. We need to get to New Ullapool. There is a war on.

Pvt. I Lefkowitz: But sir, we had no rehearsal, we can do better.

Col. Robert "Call me Bob" Pepper, CO 3rd Marine Defence Bn.:
Son, it's not like that. I liked the music, but the lyrics, "I'm gonna wash that louse right out of my hair"? Jesus Howard ******, what were you thinking?

Pvt. I Lefkowitz: Sir, it is intended to depict the daily tribulations of the average Marine.

Col. Robert "Call me Bob" Pepper, CO 3rd Marine Defence Bn.: I've never had head lice, have you? Madre de Dios! We are trying to win a war. How are you going to sell War Bonds with lyrics like "I'm gonna wash that louse right outta my hair"? Look, the bigger point is they need us in New Ullapool. I'm not going to let the Army pukes beat us there.

Pvt. I Lefkowitz: But sir, the musicians, they're Union, IATSE. They are on contract. They get paid either way.

Col. Robert "Call me Bob" Pepper, CO 3rd Marine Defence Bn.: Wait a minute, I thought they were 8th Marine Rgt band?

Pvt. I Lefkowitz: Yes, sir, but there was a Union organizer at Pendleton, a young guy in a fine woolen suit......

*******Situation, New Scotland, Sundown, Feb 7, 1942*****

The SBD's again attacked transports off New Ullapool. 21 SBD's and 6 F4F's were met by 6 Zeroes flying LRCAP from Hiryu. 3 SBD's and one F4F's were lost. Only two bomb hits were scored, but they wer laden transports. Jap forces ashore now number more than 18,000, including elements of 4th IJA Div. This is a considerably more robust force than my first estimate. It doesn't look good for holding at New Ullapool. The attack will come soon. Too bad about the 3rd Marine Def. Bn. Their shore guns could do some real damage.

As expected, Jap carrier bombers appeared over New Edinburgh to soften up the airfield. Over two dozen Kates came in without escort. They were intercepted by the reformed inebriates of 39th PS and 14 were destroyed.

*******Situation, New Scotland, Sundown, Feb 8, 1942*****

Today, 16 SBD's with 7 F4F's as escort encounter only 4 Zeroes over the landing beaches. 2 F4F's are downed, but the SBD's are unmolested and score 9 reported hits on three transports (56%). Again, the B-26's do not fly, but there is no raid on New Edinburgh, either.

IJA 4th Div. attacks today at Koumac, achieving 1:1 odds thanks to the timely arrival of US 34th inf. Regt. 3rd Marine Def. Bn. is still 20 miles away dealing with Union thugs. You can see from the air support troops the Japs intend to build up Koumac as a base of operations for seizure of Noumea.

Ground combat at Koumac (113,156)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 13056 troops, 112 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 553

Defending force 5656 troops, 124 guns, 110 vehicles, Assault Value = 201

Japanese adjusted assault: 190

Allied adjusted defense: 111

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

I had previously started a second Inf Regt toward Koumac. If the Japs have enough supply ashore, I am afraid the battle will be lost before their arrival. We shall see if the P-39's and SBD's at Noumea can weaken them. If not, I will recall the second regt. and prepare for a seige at Noumea. I had another full Marine regt. and an armored Bn. in the pipeline toward Noumea but started offloading them at Samoa when the Jap carriers showed up. I will now try to get them in to Noumea before the carriers come back (the main force to the South has disappeared).

Luzon: The Japs put in a big attack at Bataan, achieving only 1:2 and suffering heavily, but the supply is now down to 27,000. They are content to bombard Manila. The city animal controls officers have been laid off as there are no more stray animals.

Why don't we try to get some beach obstacles? Given the very peculiar tilt of the ocean at Lautem, the Jap landing craft will surely pick up speed as they approach the beach and be impaled.

Lord Admiral Sprior(Most Sincerely High)
Great Patriarch of All That Is Brown

My Dear Spri,

Sorry to hear about your predicament with the Australian government being unable to supply torpedoes to Darwin. It's the damnable railroad to Townsville that is the problem. The thing is seriously behind schedule. The supply of Chines laborers is so low, you know. Perhaps an Air HQ would help. Have the RAF any? If not, I could direct 7th Air Force HQ to depart Hawaii, although this may hamper our training efforts. We might also be able to procure aerial torpedoes through private sources.

In regard to the beach defence issue at Lautem, this is a good point as the airfield will be highly vulnerable to naval bombardment. I do have a Marine Defence Bn. at Samoa, but the key supply center is otherwise undergarrisoned. 3rd Marine Def. Bn. on New Scotland has severe management/labor issues and I would not want that exported to the medium sized Sundas. What about an Australian coastal defence unit from Tasmania? Are they mobile? After all, who really cares about Tasmania?

As an interim measure, I have directed staff to solicit bids from private contractors on beach defences for Timor.

Sincerely.

Captain Mandrake
High Master of the Green Realm

In war, nay; in all the wars ever fought, the wheels of business ventures continue to grind on. Friends or foe, the smell of "opportunity" draws the investor like the aroma of sweet nectors to a bee. But, Milo makes it a true art form.

That is one small step for war, a giant leap for Warkind.

Speaking of capitalism, I just went out to move my car out of one the proletariat spaces and I ran into the mom of my next patient. Nice lady, well dressed, baby had a nice little dress on and they were exiting an awesome, freshly detailed (even though it just rained) black Cadillac Escalade with custom wheels and video system. I said "Hi", she said "Hola, Doctor". So far, so good.

Then I get back inside and the baby is on Medical (Medicare) and I need to fill out the WIC form for free Gub'mint formula.

By the way, fine choice for legal representation.  Dewey, Cheatam and Howe have been mainstays of the legal business for some decades.

I had to look up Welsh rarebit to find the "cheesy" part. That sounds good too...though I think the English owe the Welsh an apology for making fun of them like that.
