Two newly-appointed commanders now face each other in battle. It is 1941, Russia, Summer. The Germans still have the momentum of on their side, and the Russians, with few tanks and machineguns, charge up to the front. Stalin has ordered that these cowards be stopped here. And so it begins...

PRE-GAME

I deploy my troops as necassary, to the front, move my artillery sparsely, so to have a good aim at any target required. I leave the few tanks I have behind my troops, who will lead the charge. All my men are ready for action...and the Germans have most likely already deployed their men

The German tanks flushed my positions, and have already taken 3 out of my T-35 tanks out. Infantry is still hiding, although it is time to take action. They are still waiting for the Germans to move.

The battle continues as in the North the Mark III's and IV's disable 2 more T-35s and destroy another one. The motorcycle platoons flee in terror and cowardice!!! A Mark IV is disabled in an unfavorable position.

In the middle, the concentrated line of German tanks (mostly Mark IVs and Czech 38s) ravage the exposed Soviet infantry! The German commander talks on the loud speakers-

"Surrender! Stalin only orders you to your death! Surrender now and we will take you to our uhhh concentration camps!" (Muffled chuckles follow)

In the South, I find a sneaky platoon of motorcycles taking the 4 Victory hexes, I retake 3 of them using a mixed platoon of tanks. My MKII Flame panzer however which has moved from its hiding place to finish off the motorcycles has been disabled by a shot from a hidden T-35!!! Grrrrrrrrr A Mark IV takes up position and fires a shot which surprisingly bounces off the T-35's REAR hull. Grrrr

Your turn :)

I curse as Stalin has not given me enough armor to deal with this man's tanks. But...technically...I should outnumber him in infantry. It seems brute force will not work, perhaps stealth would be wiser. I send my motorcycles skillfully past the sleeping guards and tanks, and scout the area for infantry. I yell at my artillery to hurry up with the strike. With no reinforcements, I had to do this quicky. I send my infantry to deal with the immobilized tanks, and flank the mobile ones. I hide my tanks in trees, where they can intercept the enemy. With nearly no contact, and some lost motorcycles, it was time to strike back.

The action continues as I finally drive out almost all of the remaining motorcycles down south while destroying the overwatched T-35 on the hill.

I can now see the extent of the Russian horde. And WHAT A HORDE- of ENGINEERS no less!

My tanks up north and on the hill fire everything they have to try to stem the wave of bolshevik flesh approaching them. Many soviets die but many more can be seen. I'm starting to wonder if the tanks will hold.

Up north a flammpanzer tank commander sees the lone motorcycle in the woods who has infiltrated my line. Ignoring the company commander's order to engage from long-range with MGs, the flammpanzer rushes as close as it can to the motorcycle, unaware that the crew were expecting this. A grenade flies into the fuel tanks of the flammpanzer, incinerating it and everybody in it. Grr:mad:

A second flammpanzer works its way up north and fires its MGs at the heroic cycle but doesn't even score a casualty.

120mm mortars scatter all over the middle hill blessfully missing everything important. ;)

As I order more motorcycles to flank the tanks, as I send more infantry to assault the tanks, I see them running on fire, entire platoons are snuffed out by the flame-panzers. I soon hear rumbling. I look down to the road. Reinforcements hae arrived. Three new T-35 tanks roll down the road. This was a sign. It was time for the next phase to begin. I send the rest of my infantry into forest regions where I can hide them. I send engineers to be in a good place to disable the tanks. Without German Artillery, or so far, infantry, we would win the day. I had no fortunate contacts this turn, I suffered 13 casualties :(. Germans suffered none.

Things are looking critical up north. I flambe an infantry squad entrenched in a building. Seconds later the tank crashes into the building, its brakes malfunctioning :) and is immobilized.

I rake the enemy's main line of resistance with cannon and machine gun fire, making 3-4 squads fall back in the north. In the middle, 2 or 3 squads are dispersed by the concentrated fire of the panzers.

Sneaky infantry flanking my tanks to the south are caught out in the open by the panzers. A squad retreats under a hail of 37mm shells.

I flambe a motorcycle squad up north who is trying to flank my lines. A second squad is also flamed but survives the inferno.

The horde of Russians however are still coming! I cause maybe 2 dozen casualties this turn but I still see the tides. The floodgates up north in my line are creaking. (Too Much **** Infantry!)

Kaio has yet to see MY infantry though hehehehe U never know, I might have a bunch of SS Pnzergrenadiers hidden somewhere ;)

So! The Russians try to use deceit to their favoR!!! :D No bother, they are really losing the battle now, except for a few oversights from me (my original Victory Hexes are now Russian flags, probably by Motorcycle groups.)
Phase 2 - The counterattack will begin next turn hehehehe
A lead element tank Mark III has already penetrated your main line and will scout out your pesky artillery boys.

Not my problem Stalin issued you with tons of infantry and no armor my friend hehehehe ;) Here's the file, YOUR TURN :)

If you want to Surrender it's OK :D , we can have a rematch and you can create the next battle.

No Comment...your tanks, that have a lower calibre gun than I do, destroys me in one hit...in the front. While my round to the rear of your tank takes three hits. I'm beginning to have doubts, since the armor plating is virtually the same.

I saw the replay of your turn. Your tanks (T-28s to be exact) have 26 FRONTAL ARMOR!!! My Pz38s have 30 SIDE armor! You never scored a hit to my rear, only to the side. A 37mm anti-tank gun has a good chance of penetrating a >26< armor tank.

Anyways, I have begun my counterattack. A T-28 is destroyed. The north and the middle is fairly secure, with the last mobile PzII bringing up the middle against the infantry but in the south, a tank is immobilized by engineers (probably gonna be destroyed next turn.)

The victory hexes in my starting area have been re-secured. MG34 has been positioned on top of the hill to provide cover fire along with a few tanks. (Including some immobilized ones.)

The last of the reinforcements come down the road, and my infantry are falling back quickly. I continue to flank some of the powerful armor, while my new tanks come down the road ready to figh. This shall be our last stand.

My tanks continue their rolling advance towards the Soviet lines.

In the middle, the schwerpunkt has pierced and separated the Soviet's battle line, with a few tanks reaching until the main road behind enemy lines.

However, kampfgruppe commander Vetkin has realized his mistake a little too late. His extreme right flank is weak as only 2 Mark Ivs try to hold what seems to be two platoons of engineers. One retreats, one is left to guard the victory hexes.

Up north, the flanks are more secure as the Russians are slowly being pushed back.

Behind my lines, a motorcycle squad tries to regain my starting victory hexes, although they are pushed back by determined fire from a single Czech 38 tank.

This might be your last stand but my right flank hangs in a precarious balance...

"Comrade General, the Germans are in position"
"Dah, Comrade, begin the assault"

My mortars, hiding in sandbags, reveal themselves and fire 2 rounds at a tank. The PINGING sounds make the crew **** their pants, and they abandon their tank. My infantry provide fire on the crewman, but it's neighboring tank holds us off. My new tanks approach a panzer, one gets toasted, and another fires a clean shot at the tank, and it explodes. My infantry surround an immobilized tank, throwing grenades at it. The tank, damaged badly, is near-death, but survived our assaults. This was, our last stand indeed.

Man! What a fiasco in the forest!!

The German armored gruppe, thinking it has won the day has arrogantly entered the forests, only to be met with very stiff resistance. KV-1 heavy tanks block the road like walls, smashing one of my Mark Ivs. My other tanks try to flank the Russian heavies, seeing that the way is blocked by T-35s.

A few potshots result in nothing achieved. Down south the line is holding against a few engineers, but I don't know for how long.

The battle might look good on the map but Hauptsturmfuhrer Vetkin is wondering how long it will take before the white dots who have advanced too far into enemy territory hold.

Good one Kaio! This is getting into one intense battle! (for me at least, I'm starting to sweat because of those KVs)

One of my tanks carelessly sneaks up on a flamepanzer, only to be destroyed. My other tank follows it, and almost suffers the same fate. As soon as the crew knew what was going on, they fell back from the flame's range. My mortar creates barrages on the crewmen of the two abandoned tanks on the south road, and then a foolish tank rolls in to the northwest, and the mortar fires one good round into the tank, destroying it. I also disable two other tanks, and destroy one other. This truly was our finest hour.

The battle is far from over.

In the forest, a brave Mark IV goes one on one with a KV tank, firing its 75mm cannon and scoring some hits but doing no damage. The KV promptly blasts the tank silly and the crew bail out.

This however is a diversionary tactic. The single flammpanzer II rushes the KV while its back is turned and pours fire into its exposed engine, forcing the crew to abandon it.

The flammpanzer then goes a bit south to face the other KV. The KV fires but misses the diminiuitive tank. The heroic flammpanzer burns the KV out, completely, destroying it.

A Mark IV is disabled as it is entering the forest, but routs the engineer squad who disabled it. Another Mark IV enters the forest battle and hits a T-35 to the side, smashing it.

The situation down south is stabilizing with 2 Mark IVs and a Pz38 slowly pushing back the engineers. My own squad of engineers discover a flanking maneuver up north and forces that squad to retreat.

I am running out of tanks, and this will be the ultimate test of small-unit armored maneuvering and tactics.

This forest will be the Soviets' tomb, Hauptsturmfuhrer Vetkin promises himself. We will see now how good the Soviets are in defense.

On further analysis of the situation at hand... It seems that the battle is far from over..... The soviets are holding steadfast.... although their lack of armor will start to make things easier for my 2 platoons or so of tanks left. (some immobilized.)

I get some motorcycles and infantry through the lines, and I take out a tank. Fairly normal round, with a dozen casualties on my side. My three tanks, indeed destroyed, but they lost another. But it seems all may be lost. I order my less crucial units to evacuate the area, and employ my last brave units to snuff the german threat.

The German Armored Gruppe is stuck steadfast in the Soviet forests, as hidden engineer squads endlessly assault. Without recon units, the way will be slow. The last KV-1 still persists and my last Flammpanzer is in peril. If the KV manages to destroy it, rampant damage will result to the remnants of my armored company.

I still hold all VHexes except for the enemy's starting point. A Czech 38 is on its way to recon the area for my heavier tanks.

My engineer squads move into position to possibly assist my tank gruppe.

The fate of the battle is yet undecided. The German forces are overextended although the Russians are in full retreat except for a few pockets of resistance.

I carelessly move my tanks up, fall back my KV after taking massive flame damage, and take many casualties. No tanks were destroyed this round, but I am in the perfect position to send the germans back.
