HELP!

Guys, I'm a first time user of AE and WITP in general. I'm embroiled in an email game with a buddy of mine. I'm using version 1.03.1102a.

My primary issue is this: I have multiple squadrons across the globe that cannot:
- Transfer to another base
- Fly ANY KIND of flight operations (Sweep, Recon, Search etc)
- Cannot be withdrawn
- Cannot be trained or stood down
- Cannot be withdrawn
(In short, no buttons are available to select!)

The ONLY things I can do are:
- Get New Pilot
- Request a Veteran
- Upgrade aircraft
- Set Training % (but I can't select WHAT KIND of training)

The above Operations are all I can do with these aircraft. I'm playing Allies and would estimate that 30% of all available aircraft are in this state. I've attempted to have HQ placed clsoe, supplies/fuel avaiable, unrestricted commands etc. Nothing works. It's costing me hundereds of PP points per turn because those that must be withdrawn are unable to do so.

When the aircraft arrive on base, they're opperational for a time of approximately 4-6 weeks, then fall in to this operational coma.

The issues are not limited by any one particular kind of aircraft. Fighters, Recon and Buffs are all impacted.

I have attached a pic for review. If anyone can update me on my foolishness I'd be very greatful. Some of the bases that have these aircraft are:
Cooktown
Townsville
Trivandrum
Pago Pago

Thanks,

Frank

Can you attach a save here, please.
Just zip it up first.

The screen shot looks similar to what you would expect from a Soviet air group.

Thanks Michael,

To be up front, I'm new to WITP AE as this is my first game. It's a PBEM and I'm the allies.

It's possible I've not set/supplied or otherwise unrestricted a command somehow, but my buddy and I can't figure it out.

I have a/c in northern austrailia and India with this issue.

I'll look forward to hearing from you on what you determine.

Frank

Interesting.
Those groups think that they are being controlled by the AI. Computer controlled zones were removed from AE.

????
Do you know when it started happening? I suspect that you must have somehow managed to press a sequence of keys that reactivated the old code.

I have uploaded the save with the AI zones reset.

Seems it is possible to do this if you have the groups loaded on a ship in a TF and you put the TF under 'Computer' control.

And then have the groups unload while still part of the 'Computer controlled' TF.

Have made changes to not put groups under such control

While some of these Air Groups were transported by ship, not all of them have. Some of them have arrived via the replacement schedule and were close enough to "transfer" to a combat area.

Is this anomoly considered a bug?

Michael,

Thanks for the fix. This seems to have cured the inactive air groups problem. Can you tell me what caused it? Did I miss a setting/preference?

My PBEM buddy and I are going to restart another game as this issue has caused severe problems for me. As he is the Axis player, he has enough advantages in the early stages of the war w/o me losing 40%+ of all aircraft groups in combat areas.

If we restart a new game, is there any risk of this happening again?

Important: I noticed that you're on version 1.03.1105c. Is this the current version, have I missed an update? My current version is 1.03.1102a (Feb. 2010) Please adivse if there is an update I should apply.

Thanks again for the help. I'll let yo know if this issue surfaces again.

1105 is a future version - does not affect the save contents.

The problem seems related to having a group on a ship in a TF that you put under 'Computer control'. It changes any groups on ships in that TF to AI control, even though that group AI-control is not present in AE (left over from stock, TF changing the groups was not noticed when the AI-control code was turned off.)

I think that the groups could have been fixed by putting on a ship in a TF, and then toggling the TF from Human -> Computer -> Human control.
