has anyone else noticed that in the latest update your cargo ships start chasing and attacking the wildlife, or at least try to do so? not the brightest of captaining there since these civilian ships have no hopes of winning against those buggers

It's been commented on a couple of times. If you get a savegame showing it, please upload it so they can look.

I remember a thread complaining about them always running away and *not* firing at the monsters.

lol, seriously? who would complain about them running away... unless the monster in question is like inches away from death or something

not only do they often get clobbered by the monsters they are chasing, they also waste valuable time that could be spent on transporting goods, I don't want swashbucklers manning my cargo fleet!

The problem is that they weren't *firing* while running away.   They wouldn't fire until they were actually hit, at which point they were dead.

One way around your problem is to remove the weapons from your freighter design so they have nothing to chase with.  You'll have to disable auto-design to do so.

But... if you can get a savegame showing the chase, upload it per the instructions here so codeforce can see what's happening.

Not much point in trying to install weapons on freighters anymore anyway. One weapon isn't going to do squat, and additionally, they refuse to accept directions on how to use them, so they just get killed or refuse to use them at all anyway. So I just said screw it and let 'em die.
