So what you are saying is, Pearl Harbor was a marvelously made movie, with a great love scene and historically accurate?

Or the kidd class guided missile destroyers, or Nuclear powered carriers, so amazingly historical, I give it 5 stars.

Windtalkers was entertaining any way.
BTW, my wife likes Pearl Harbor she says the focus is more on the lives of those people than the war.

What about Thin Red Line? I think I got bored with that move.

Letters from Iwo Jima was good and disturbing.
It does show that the Japanese are also human like everyone else.

Which is not the impression Hollywood wanted to show for many years during or after WWII. To them the 'nips' were devil-like monsters devoid of feeling and compassion that deservedt o be treated like vermin.
Amazing it took this long for a leading Hollywood producer (Clint Eastwood) to actually make a decent & accurate movie about the IJA and their viewpoint on the war.

I couldn't stand Thin Red Line; the whole movie I kept thinking "why are these soldiers with Vietnam-era attitudes doing on Guadalcanal?".

Letters was very good. Even GF unit liked.....very strong acting in it and of course Clint is god whether in front of or behind the camera.

Still need to see Flag of our Fathers. While only loosely war related....recently saw Inglorious Bastards and was suprised to find out that it bored me to tears. Not what i was expecting from Sir Quinten.

Letters is by far a superior film. as to Inglorious, if you take it as it is, ie a piss take, its quite palatable. What a shame that such detail and research went into uniforms for such a film. The SS Colonel would be better suited to a film the calibre of Schindler's List such is his performance.

I was expecting over the time gratuitous violence and crude guy humor.

I got more entertainment out of Zombieland.

AGGGGHHHHH! NOOOO! A co-worker told me to watch this movie. After 25 minutes I gave up... It's a Tarantino's movie but made for TEENS. This says it all The Norwegian Dead Snow movie at least had some horror and fun

Cantona, the two movies you mention should be avoided at all cost!

interesting flick...all i could think of while watching was "hey, there's that guy from The Office...what's he doing in this movie?"

Kinda liked 'Dead Snow' myself. I'm in favor of more Norweigan zombie movies.

Well anarchyintheuk, after watching Dead Snow I watched another Norwegian film (Cold Prey). Horror and fun were supposed to be in it but... a miserable failure. No zombies in it, true (and the SS zombies in Dead Snow were rather original and funny). It was some sort of Scandinavian Friday 13/Chainsaw Massacre, so... suffice to say that I gave up after watching er, like 40 minutes. Zombieland was even more pathetic though, so fair play

Kate Beckinsale was the only thing worth watching in THAT movie.  And she wasn't in the other one so it's even worse!

What about Tora Tora Tora from 1970? Never received very well at the time, but is now considered a far better movie than PH. Most critics then said that the desire for detail/historical accuracy made the film dead boring, dry and flat.
For what it's worth I've met and actually flown in one of the main stars of Tora Tora Tora, namely a D3A Val, and I can tell you that it was a hell of a lot better actor than Ben Affleck!

Wait a minute...

Didn't Ben Affleck steal a loaded D3A from the deck of the Akagi, bomb the fuel-laden Kaga (sinking her), parachute from his damaged aircraft (just after steering it into the deck of the Hiryu, sinking her), land in the water and, once recovered, help the USS Dolphin captain put three TTs into each of the remaining flattops (sinking them in turn)?

Maybe I'm getting the 'Movie that Shall not be Named' confused with Captain Mandrake's AAR.

Tora, tora, tora was, and is the best movie about PH, if accuracy is important. I remember reading a list of the inaccuracies many years ago, and it was pretty darn short and trivial. Most were technical errors, not likely noticed except by a few. For example, I think one of them was the fact that there were depth charge devices in a scene that weren't available in 1941. Another had something to do with one of the exterior shots of buildings, or something. Maybe the IMDB.com site has the list.

I watch it at least twice a year.

Agreed, Tora, Tora, Tora is the definitive telling of PH from both sides and is just about the most accurate, even if it is rather dry without Ben Affleck in it.

Actually I think you are getting confused with Biggles. Which, to be fair, Ben Affleck based his character on in PH
