Ok, I've got enough experience to outsmart the AI, time to try a human opponent.
Anybody interested in a 2-3000 point game?

Ok, I've downloaded the ZIP, now what?
The manual isn't helping much.
Also, which OOB, and how do I get THAT?
What about that PBEM helper program I can't seem to find?

OK now you've got the ZIP.

Unzip all files into the Steel Panters World At War/Email folder!

When you're donep playing, look into the same folder and ZIP all files belonging to that game. (you'll find out which they are, and it also says when you've entered the password starting your turn)

Now you should see the game appear in the save game list under the PBEM menu.

You shouldn't change OOB's at all. If you do, make sure your opponents got the very same one! Otherwise things can be very strange. :)

The PBEM helper program is around somewhere, but I don't think it's either here on Matrixgames or @ Fabio's Armor Site. I'm not sure if you can use it with web-based email. I couldn't find out a way. If you have a "real" email then it shouldn't be a problem

The French are surprised by the paratrooper assault behind enemy lines. I must admit I was not expecting this. However, several Armored cars and Hotchkiss MGs have taken positions along the nearby hill and town and are now overlooking the whole contingent of paratroopers, raining death (hopefully) on them.

Along the front lines, a recon platoon of light tanks and tankettes to the south encounter a motorcycle squad. It might seem that three tanks vs. a motorcycle squad is unfair but remember, these are FRENCH tanks with 7.5mm machineguns.....
To the north another group of recon vehicles approach the german front lines, hoping to catch a glimpse of the attckers.

YOUR TURN :)

Well, you got one para squad...

I got most of your recon on the south flank, I think. Should've picked someone their own size to mess with. :p

The recon up north will catch something, just move them a couple more hexes forward...

Your move

Not much contact this turn, repositioned some troops (most repositioned themselves by retreating) Mon Dieu!

Behind the lines, the German paratroopers stand firm as the French AMD armored cars provide to be much inferior compared to SdfKs (Germans)

Up front, I see some Mark IVs advancing towards my MLR. Let's see how my French tanks hold.

This is my first time playing the French, but now I know why they didn't hold the Maginot line!

French have a really odd view of how to build any vehicle. Must be that mouldy cheese they eat. :D

Not a lot of action this turn, but I see some big juicy targets coming up.

Your turn. :)

Grrrrrr, those paratroopers are really annoying me! One armored car is lost to a satchel charge (or flamethrower, don't know which)

A brave recon tank up front is blown to bits by a Mark IV. Medium tanks move up the line to meet the growing German threat (I see mostly Mark IIs and IVs.)

More artillery rounds pound behind the and at the front lines, forcing more of my French troops to retreat.!!!!

One thing I notice about the French army is that they are HARD to RallY!!!!!

Panzerwurfminen :D :D
The paratroopers are running out of targets and are now making their way towards their objectives, wondering where the french have gone.

Things are slowly heating up on the front as well. One MC squad tried to sneak up on a Char something and got wiped out. Spotted several other tanks in the centre, think I'll call somebody to shift them ;)

GRRRRR! Your paratroopers have no more targets for their Mines because you destroyed a platoon or so of my AMDs!!!

There will be hell to pay!!! 2 more AMDs roll forward to take up the fight against the paratroopers, reducing a squad of them to almost nothing.

A squad of legionnaires, fuming because of the humiliation of having their armored cars destroyed charged from the town, only to be engaged by an unseen machinegun and 2 squads of paratroopers. The legionnaires stand firm but are reduced to less than !50%!

Up front, my tanks score some hits against the German panzers, none of them penetrating.

Your artillery is killing me (through constant suppression) !!!!! :)

And as I've said before, my troops just won't RALLY!!!!!!

This is a much better turn for me.

Your paratroopers are going nowhere hehehehehe ;)
Whatcha gonna do huh? You parachute punks? To the right you have a platoon of legionnaires, up front you have a platoon plus machineguns and snipers, to your left nothing and to go back, retreat. hehehehehe :p

Up front, one of my Chars smash a Pz-II. Nothing else much, it seems my tanks have a LOW rate of fire in addition to a pansy crew. (A platoon or so of tanks fall back due to uknown causes)

I can hold this line, and might win this battle.... If only my troops HOLD!!!!!!!! Mon Dieu! For the glory of France! HOLD!!!!!!!!

Belisarius! Do you have any tips on how to handle the French!?!?!?! :) I am really really baffled. Compared to the Germans, the French army is a very difficult one to use.... very challenging. Inferior equipment, inferior morale, I don't know about the infantry.... although I don't think even the foreign legion will hold against SS.

So what are some tips on how to use the French!?!? :)

Since their morale is so bad... what do the French have to compensate for this? I'm sure there must be SOMETHING good about the French army!

Vetkin, a quick reply:

The French 1940 tanks are really up to par compared to their infantry companions. :) There are very few German weapons that can dent the armor of a Somua S-35 or Char-Bis. (The S-35 was probably one of the finest tanks around in the early war years)

Trick is, ofcourse, to NOT use French tactics. They have to be deployed in numbers like their Wehrmacht counterparts and not as infantry CS tanks.

There's much to be said 'bout how to use the French Army, we'll return to this in a bit.

Those paratroopers will be fine, I'm wondering what's keeping the rest of them. Heard some planes fly over, but other than that...

The armor on those Chars seems to be holding up well...
So far.

You're right, your paratroopers are holding... so far.

I've seen some planes last turn pop out but drop nothing.... hMMmmmmm

Remind me to buy AA guns next time :)

I got showered by heavy artillery and planes this turn.

Thankfully the heavy artillery scattered somewhere insignificant. I think your planes blew up one tank.

All my tank fire up front is ineffective, but my tanks are trying to get into better positions.

Come closer little Mark IVs, I'll show you what French cannons are made of!!!!!!

Clunk, bing, gloing, thunk, ding, d*mn those chars

And d*mn those paratroopers. The second wave declined to jump and is on its way back to berlin apparently

A couple MG34s jammed, one Panzer isn'tgoing anywhere and most of my artillery crew have run of after some French girls :(
Looks like the tide is slowly turning...

Almost nothing happened this turn, I really couldn't get my Chars to the south to rally although my R-35s scored some hits, none penetrated.

Tsk tsk tsk misjumped eh?!? hehehehehe GOOD, now we'll see how German parachute infantry is against Legionnaires. :) I just wish I could see that pesky MG on the hill. It's annoying...

Your artillery fire scored some direct hits but mine also did, I don't know how much damage I caused though....
