Hi, I love this game. However I have one little bone to pick. There are no real aliens! Insectiods, Rodents, Amphibians? Come on you guys can think a bit harder than that!

What about Energy based aliens that colonize Suns instead of planets! Ships that are made of energy pearls strung along with a magnetic field.

Giant creatures made of Ionized Gas particles held together by energy that live in Gas Giants. With ships that are HUGE by comparison to any other current alien species, thou still comparable in power.

Now those are Aliens! I look forward to future alien races that are a lot more alien!

Honestly, it would really be cliche if we had little green men. I may have to add them.

Think about, why there is a conflict about the current races about ?
They all need the same.

There is no need to communicate with creatures they live at suns, except you just want to do small talk.

That's not true. This is a video game. Imagine that a race which could colonize STARS existed in the game. Would you simply ignore each other? HELL NO. You'd figure out a way to invade them and conquer them so YOU could colonize stars. And even if they were completely impossible, you'd blow them up simply because they explode really pretty when you nuke them. Players are assholes.

I think it be great if you could to learn to exist in peace with them :) But like Fishman points out, you will likely war anyway. Simply that they exist and they can harm you, even if they would have no reason to, would make em a threat to your paranoid empire.

Hahah! So true. Still, I usually try to play peacefully and ally myself with at least one or two similar major races and let them go to war against more warlike and troublesome races. I just hang back and admire my shiny custom built fleets that could easily turn the tide of galaxy wide war. It's so much easier to be peaceful with galaxy's greatest armada, that's my motto in 4X games.

I mean, just look at a certain old game, Reach for the Stars. It's possible to have two races that share no environments and could easily peacefully coexist by totally ignoring each other.

That isn't going to happen.

Well, according to the info, that story is about expanding resource usage abilities conflicting into a new range. I'm talking about situations where two races are basically completely incompatible and will never become compatible in their requirements, with the only way they can relate to each other at all being to kill each other, for no reason.

And you know what? Being players, they'll do it.

Hmm, i though we speak about PLAYABLE races ? At last Energy and gas creatures would need complete different resources and Researches.

Sure you can add more strong inteligent space creature that expand to any Sun/ Gas Giant but that just would be some stronger versions of kaltors.

Yes, I would like these to be playable races indeed :)  They will use the same resources, and have different preferences than most other aliens. Plus we can toss in a few extra rare resources that only appear at the locations these aliens inhibit. That would provide a catalyst for conflict.

Other aliens might be gaseous creatures that inhibit special patches of gas, in gas nebula. This would be cool cause they would cluster in areas that the traditional DW aliens shun.

Aliens that live in space: They are their own spaceships, and inhibit areas near asteroids, because they feed on them. That would be an interesting race too. But it would have to be balanced more. Maybe they also like to feed on player ships :) I know they have few of these in the game now, but it be quite a challenge to make them a playable race.

You are describing a completely different game. Sounds like a good game, but its not Distant Worlds.

Sir!

Something blew our flagship into the neighbouring galaxy!

Precursors: Advanced life that somehow screwed up or moved on and left their toys to rampage the galaxy.

that has truth written all over it.

That would make a heck of an endgame and an introduction to an expansion where you have punched thru a wormhole and thru a tech problem put into a very distant galaxy with only your colony ship to start. New races and new tech's to explore. pretty darn hard to kill the sun people with a torpedo......

Yes, one would need to create some type of energy harvestor so we could literally use them as batteries. We couldn't live on suns, no, but we could enslave them and use them as Super Duracells.

Edit- OR! A new kind of reactor! The most efficient one, heh.

Does it matter? They're big, ugly, and they attack you. Motivation becomes somewhat less important after that.

I think the alien races in this game are diverse compaired to other similar games but I agree that they are pretty sci-fiish compaired to what man thinks of other races in our real-life galaxy but whos to say that we know what aliens really look like other than what movies and tv make them to be if they even exist which personally I believe there are many races out there just don't know if they look like us or like bugs... hope like us though or like the blue gals from Mass Effect 2... now that would be great!

They exist. Who do you think built all that random crap you find lying around the galaxy? The Ancients and the Shaktur *ARE* the precursors. That's why you find and loot their shiny advanced trinkets.

See "Ekarus Meat". Clearly, the Precursors turned themselves into these critters so they wouldn't be eaten by the Eternal Ones. Of course, we find them very tasty, too.
