With the new update 1.34, I am just now getting back into GoA. I've started a couple games as the Central Powers and am very impressed with Frank's AI. The game is a world different from when I was playtesting the beta versions! My concern is with Russia's strength and Germany's relative economic weakness. I think I misread the part of the manual about Germany's industrial might. Do you need conquests in order to get available EPs above about around 12? With the economy running at 135% and Serbia, Belgium, Lux, and a strip of NE France occupied, and Baltic trade maxed out, I could only get 26/13. What's the max. value you guys have reached?

The Russians also seem a bit too strong, able to attack multiple times nearly EVERY impulse on multiple fronts? How the heck can their backward economy support endless numbers of expensive HQ points? I control the Baltic Sea the entire time, but I wonder if Britain is funneling them industrial points somehow (Arctic routes like in WW2?)?

I just started back with this game as well.  Mid 20's for the Germans is the highest I've been able to secure for the economy.  The AI is really pretty good on the main fronts but it's still pretty bad in the middle east and Greece.  Britain was comatose and refused to budge despite the fact that Turkey was ripe for the picking.   Also Britain surrendered at the end of 1917 for reasons I do not know.  It didn't seem my uboats were that effective.

Russia also surrendered in 1917.  Their manpower losses were enormous.  I'd like to add that I tried a double envelopment on the Eastern front with the Russians pushed forward across the mountains threatening central Austria.  The AI actually recognized what was happening and withdrew their troops out of the pincer.  Impressive.

I am also currently playing the game as the Allies in 1914 and likewise, the AI responded to my Russian steamroller offensive in the East and is currently calmly withdrawing out of harm's way. Really enjoy this game and keep getting back into it time and time again. WWI ground combat is still woefully under-represented in computer simulations, IMHO, but hopefully with the approaching centennial observance we may begin to see more attention paid to the era by game designers.

It has been about a year since I've played this game but, the RU front with all the early attacks is historic. Then the stockpile runs out. The RU indeed cannot replace losses and can afford few offensives after a bit and their leaders can only store two points anyway. It worked rather well (but I can't speak of the later patches).

Just finished a game with CP (major victory 246 vp) and was consistently at 19 for Germany (with Turkey sending 5 resources/turn) after knocking out Russia in 1916, went to 21 after taking out Holland and Belgium in 1917 with Austria taking out Romania (was nice to not worry about food!).

AI was prioritizing naval buildup (lots of British/French destroyers) it seemed. Kept pressure on with sorties from Wilhelmshaven iinto North Sea and combined Austrian/Turkish navies into East Med. Britain reinforced Salonika with and kept 4-5 corps in Greece but didn't attack from there, didn't attack from Egypt (maybe because my Turks didn't cross the frontier?) and air recon showed that they didn't build up there either. Unit(s) in India stayed put as well (I'd left the Turk corps in Basra).

Western front was mostly quiet with occasional failed attacks by France, overran Italy with forces that knocked out Russia though the Italians did attack Trent pretty often (used Italian corps always even though some British corps were in Mantua and Milan).

Serbia was extremely aggressive as I had deployed a small number of Austrians initially to concentrate on Russia, had to work to prevent them from cutting two corps out of supply. Bulgaria delivered the coup de grace to them and received Skopje for their efforts.

The TE did build lots (approximately 40) of aircraft in 1918-1919 and it was a bear dealing with until my aircraft tech caught up with theirs.

Thanks, Will. I didn't realize until reading through old posts that transfering resources from the OE to Germany was the way to go. I wonder if that has any historical basis, although it is obviously the thing to do within the game system.

So even with the latest v1.34, the U-boats remain ineffective (that seems to be a common finding with earlier versions when I looked through old posts here)?
