FROM: LGEN Sugawara, 3rd Air Division HQ. Kota Bharu. TO: GEN. Hisaichi Terauchi. Southern Area Army HQ. Kuala Lumpur. SUBJECT: AIR RAID OVER SINGAPORE NAVAL BASE. DATE: Jan 10th, 1941. This morning our forces have take off from Kota Bahru airfield to smash Singapore Naval Yard, when enemy ships have been sighted by our recon air flights. 72 Ki-43 Hayabusa escorting 84 bombers have strike enemy naval base, reporting following damages on ships at dock or drydock: - SS SNAPPER, 4 bomb hits, SUNK ! - SS K-XIV, 3 bomb hit, SUNK ! - SS SALMON, 2 bomb hits, heavily damages. - XAKL IPOH, 2 bomb hits, heavily damages, on fire. - XAKL BUST, 1 bomb hit, SUNK ! - DD ISIS, 2 bomb hits, SUNK ! - HDML 1096, 1 bomb hit, SUNK ! - XAKL MARUDU, 1 bomb hit. Several Buffaloes were at CAP over Singapore Skies, but they were mopped by our fighters !. 22nd Air Flotilla G3M2 and G4M1 have strike enemy groud positions at Singkawang to support the ground assault by our forces. Singkawang falls in our hands reporting 568 enemy casualties. Pontianak was assaulted and enemy was smashed by our crack IJA forces. 3 enemy Swordfish attacked our ships over Singkawag. In spite of beeing intercepted by 1 A6M2, they get several hits on AMC SAIGON MARU and AP ARGENTINA MARU, both ship sinking after 3 bomb hits each. A Porpoise SS have been reported HIT by a G3M2 flying ASW mission near Cam Ranh Bay. 4 B-17 were intercepted over Kuching by 6 A6M2 from HIJMS Ryujo. 1 enemy bomber was downed. Another 4 B-17 were intercepted over Pontianak by our A6M2 from Ryujo with no enemy losses reported. Two enemy submarines reported by recon flights at Singapore Naval Yard.
