Don't know if this is a bug. But when computer controlled colonization is enabled, and if the planet doesn't want to join your empire, the computer will continuously send colonization ship to the planet and it will be without success. So you have to manually send ground forces. I wonder if this also happens with computer controlled empires, because it's not ok.

Also I noticed that computer controlled empires progress much slower than you. Maybe because the computer doesn't always send a ship to kill pirate ship in other star systems. So you need to do it manually.

Anyway after playing this game for 5 hours, it was effortless win all the time. The game has a lot of potential for maybe distant worlds 2? Because computer controlled stuff is a lot of fun, while you do the big decisive stuff.

I recon that is working as intended, seeing you are able to get an unfriendly planet to join your empire, although the chance of it happening is not that high. just as you can fail to colonise a friendly planet.

Agreed working as intended. Most unfriendly planets will join eventually if you crash enough colony ships into them.

On a side note have seem my AI send a troopship to invade an unfriendly colony once. Wish I knew what makes it decided to invade vs colonize...
